i think porn can be best described as "sensational".

is this scene "sensational"? that is, is it simply to get a reaction by showing something lurid, or is it an important part of the story as in "i wouldn't get the meaning of the film without the blow" or "chloe's character just doesn't develop proporly without giving some head (REAL!)" .

Some do, some don't. While not common, it is not unheard of for some actors (regardless of if they are hooked up or not) to actually have sex while filming a sex scene in a film. Not many will admit to it, but Hollywood is full of rumors on it.
