Just pulled my sparkplugs. Had these for about 3 months, 5000 km, running 7 psi. What do you guys think? I think they look pretty good..

Next time run your car through the gears and then shut it off and coast to a stop. Then pull your plugs if you want a good indication of how the car is running.

You MUST do as ron describes to get an accurate reading...

If these plugs were pulled after a run, i would say that your fuel mixture is slightly rich, as indicated by the black soot on the base ring .
Check the porcelain for tiny black specs or aluminum particles. These are signs of detonation.

So you guys are saying to pull the plugs hot? The car was tuned to run at around 12 AFR so that's richer than stock. I put a new set in anyways so in a month or so I'll pull them following that procedure.

to me they look slightly rich with some high speed glazing, caused by a lean mixture at Higher RPM's, you my friend have a Heavy foot, but they dont look that bad, ive pulled out way worse from my 1.5L civic with no mods. a properly worn plug will have a nice greyish brown coating on them and if they are a Copper electrode then that will be worn out

oh and if you decide to run Irridiums for you next plugs, make sure you dont use a Metalic gap tool to set the gap, otherwise you just paid 3 times the price for regular Sparkplugs.

Thats a hot plug, judging by the insulator colour, a little to hot, ideally you should run as cold as plug as you can get away with, without fouling. The plug shroud is showing some rich colour, but the insulator has been to hot, a couple of shades darker would be optimum... Don't be to worried about fouling though with cold plugs, alot of ecu's even factory ones bump into closed loop at idle which tends to keep the plugs lean. The lower the plug number the hotter the plug.. Currently I am running 11.5 NGK race plugs with no problems on the street..Maxt

he whole pourpose of irriduim is to keep corrosion of the electrode so that you get a more efficient Spark, so use a metal gapper and you remove the coating rendering your plugs normal.

this is also why irridium last hella long, when you normally change your plugs at 10k, irridiums will go as far as 60-80k, my old mans nissan frontiers plugs are due for a change at 120K
