the dampening does help if you take the time to dial it in, but won't really make a big difference on the street.

The HA's ride quality shouldn't be good, its a pure track coilover and handling is what your paying for. The SS is a decent entry level coilover, but personally I'd go with GCs + Konis.

And I think the wheels on the red lude look like Gram light 57C or 57F (same wheel just cast vs forged)

Ya i agree with kevin. If i hadnt found this deal on the koni's i probably would have gone with the TEIN flex, and saved up some more to mate it with the EDFC:drool:

Well, the thing is, I think my shocks sqeek a little bit every time a lot of pressure is exerted on them (IE going over speed bumps, something sqeeks and I'm guessing it's the shocks). I got a pretty good suspension right now so I don't really need to change it, I just wanna stop that damn sqeeking.

My stock left shocks did the same thing last winter, but the problem corrected itself.

What type of suspension do you have in there now?

how much would the GC+Koni setup cost (approx?)

MM99lude
04-20-2006, 09:45 AM
If you were to get GC and Koni brand new it should run you about 700-800 for the koni's and 400+ for the GC's.

arian_ma
04-20-2006, 10:58 AM
Yea see the thing is we can get the TEIN SS' for a little less than $1400 all said and done and that comes with the upper pillow ball mounts and the 16 damper settings.

buh_buh
04-20-2006, 12:55 PM
GC+Koni Yellow>Tein SS imo.
The only Teins worth buying are Flex or HA.

Don't fall for the JDM hype.

04-20-2006, 01:40 PM
Agreed....pillow ball mounts are the shiet though. Say good bye to no road noise though....*sigh* I miss my car...hahaha

Along those lines the Tein HA/Flex are probably the hardest suspension besides Zeal coilovers, even on the 'softest' setting, it will still rattle the change outta your pockets...

I already posted this elsewhere but forgot about this thread hahah so here goes again:
I'm lookin to upgrade the suspension and handling on my 95 lude SR...something that will give me much better handling but still streetable

I need some personal experiences and opinions/suggestions for suspension sets and certain setups from everyone, what to get, what not to get...etc

i'm looking to upgrade the suspension a fair bit (im a sucker for the corners), this includes all strut bars, etc

Can anyone share any knowledge and experience and help me make the best and most informed decision about spending money on my car's handling??? I'm going on a big hunt after my last exam but i wanna hear from the community in the meantime :D If anyone can give me some approx prices that would be great too!

Thanks!:goflames:

I luved when I had my H&R springs on, the teins I got after were pretty rough, even though they were no where near the 'performance' side of Tein. They were Tein NRs IIRC.

I currently have tein SS springs on my Teg, but I rather have H&Rs if I were to do it all over again....

H&R FTW....

bigbadboss101
04-24-2006, 07:11 AM
I had a 97 Lude and when I got the car it had Koni's with H&R Racing. Handled very well, but it was hard. Decided to get to Eibach's Street.

I have no experience with Teins or other systems. The H&R's were nice.

Everyone have different opinions. I prefer not too stiff, and slightly less in handling, more in comfort. But the H&R and Koni combo is nice.

When I had it on my Lude some guy was following close to me on Deerfoot. Did the off turn to Glenmore West and lost him cuz his car would flip over :-).

I don't care what people say about the weight of the lude....its handles so well, like its on rails with some minor suspension tweeking.....

D-Man
04-25-2006, 03:24 PM
My current set-up is the Tein HA's. I had Koni Yellows and H&R sports which was a great combo at a reasonable cost. I wanted something more adjustable so I opted for a true coilover suspension and have no regrets. I love my HA's...

You may also want to consider adding front & rear upper strut bars to tighten up the handling.

Something that I would also recommend, not sure if this holds true for 4th gens, would be upgrading the rear sway bar to something thicker like a suspension techniques, neuspeed, tanabe or progress.

I also have the lower tie-bars on my car. I really didn't notice any difference in handling after these were installed...

Tony did your budget just like double?
I'm pretty sure those prices for the Tanabe's are for 2 coilovers only, and you should also make sure that it's not for the SH preludes, cause then it won't fit your car!
For a full set of Tanabe's I'd guess you'd be looking at a little over $2k

IncredibleToad
04-26-2006, 01:09 AM
no it was a typo on their site, they actually have a set for BB1/2's

and im pretty sure those prices are for a whole set...its just like the tein basic or SS series, im not going all out its kind of like an entry level setup from tanabe that should run me approx the same amount...besides ive never seen any place sell only two coilovers hahah

rc2002
04-26-2006, 09:42 AM
Tanabe is very decent quality suspension. But I really don't think a full coilover setup is good for daily driving. I think a sleeve coilover, or spring/strut combo would be the best compromise.

I never used to mind a rough ride. But now, I'd rather have a little less performance and a lot more comfort.

For the past while, when buying parts now my #1 priority is risking daily drivability. Its nice to have a car that can perform like a track car on the street, but its nicer to have a car that's comfortable to drive imo.

i dont want comfort to take too much of a hit...how many of you here with coilovers actualyl adjusted their height more than once or twice hahah....im thinkin i should go for a spring/strut combo...a little less pricey and its prolly all i really need

hey just a heads up for you guys.
I'm selling a set of Samco rad hoses for 5th gens, a Sparco harness bar for 5th gens, and a pair of 10" Rockford subs that were custom made to fit between the wheel well for a 5th gen. I got some other random stuff too, but nothing else Prelude specific.

PM me if your interested. Thanks.

For the folks with GC, is it pretty easy to adjust? Jack it up and roll? I need to raise the car a bit cuz it's rubbing on turns, and on hard bumps. I don't need to take the wheel off I assume?

arian_ma
05-17-2006, 01:19 PM
It's super easy.
ALl you need is an Allan key and WD40. Make sure you clean the sleeves before you start turning the coil because then you will destroy the whole thing.

buh_buh

I don't even bother tightening them with an allen key, and they've never moved on me. Just jack it up and turn.

The height of the car isn't low at all. I think the wheels are large. Ah it's not a lude so I am in the wrong thread.

Stock is 195 55 15, comparable one would be 205 40 17, mine has 215 45 17. Rub a dub dub.

Where did you get yours done? Was it done in calgary or you did you have to send your oems to somoene and do it for you online? Cause it seems like when im looking around on the net people only do them if you send them your headlights. I'm looking for a set of projector HID retrofits as well for my 5th gen lude

Yup, with a plug and play HID kit, you actually get worse light output than stock. That's what I found. Plus you're blinding all the drivers on the road... Don't go HID without retrofitting.

A lot...considering a JDM front end conversion on an Integra goes for 2500 (and they pretty much bolt on cept for the rad mount) this would cost you an arm and both legs.

I need some help and some advice on Bodykits, lip kit, etc
I just want some feedbacks and opinion to help me decide what to get for my 1997 Prelude, I just got it about 2 weeks ago.

Mugen
Wings west
Greddy

these were the ones I thought were pretty good on the Prelude, I don't want something that would make my Prelude look like a space ship, I just want to keep it simple and stylish. Feel free to suggest something if you think I should go with something else. If you've got ANY pros or cons with these kits or any other kits, let me know. I just don't want to jump into something that I would regret later on. Thanks guys.

PS, if you've got a link to a bodykit, lipkit, sidskirt, etc that you want to show me, that's even better.

rc2002
06-11-2006, 11:32 AM
I'd get a lip kit. The Greddy lip is :bigpimp: That way your whole Front end stays eurethane.

The problem I had with the Mugen FB is that it was easier to scrape it (especially when lowered) because the way it's formed. It extends out towards the front more. Look-wise I'd go with the Mugen - but for practicality I would go for the Greddy lip.

VIS Mugen Replica......the best way to get the OEM kit is to surf the TorontoPrelude Club, Vancouver Prelude Club and Preludeonline.....every so often someone sells them.

Yeah, very pricey....I paid close to $300 for the fronts, $450 for the sides used~!!!

rc2002

Try to time it just right when someone is parting out their prelude. Then you can get painted pieces for cheap. But you might be waiting a LONG time.

But with the exchange rate the way it is, I'm sure Speedtech will be able to get you the VIS pieces for cheap. I would just buy brand new while the loonie is at $0.91US.

Well I found one for sale on Ebay, its pretty much how much you paid for yours 1bar, Except this one is a full OEM bodykit, including the rear lip kit. What do you guys think? Its also located in Vancouver so I dont have to pay extra fees even if its shipped by UPS.

Sounds like a good deal, but eBay is always kind of sketchy. I don't trust people off of there unless they have a rating of >99.5% after like 500 sales. Link the eBay page so that people can tell you whether it's a good deal or not.

works out to about $650 canadian with no other fees since its from Vancouver.

question for you guys, is it me or are the stock sideskirts on the Prelude almost similar to the OEM sideskirts? They almost look identical to me, but then I don't really know what I'm talking about. Do you guys think its better to just buy an OEM front lip and rear lip and keep the stock sideskirts and just paint it?

arian_ma
06-14-2006, 01:37 AM
I stuck with stock side skirts, I didn't think it was worth the $1000 to get the fibreglass fitted to my car. IMO The rear of the OEM kit looks horrid. I like the sides, and I don't think the front is "flashy" enough to justify spending $250+ on.

PS: Pretty much the only difference between the stock skirts and the OEM kit skirts is that the aftermarket skirts are much lower to the ground.

That's an OEM replica kit.....as for the side skirts, yes they are almost identicle to the stock sides ludes came with. But if you look closely to my first pic, you'll see lines in them that match the body perfectly...its one of those subtle things....

If you can find the same color Prelude for an SH owner, there's came body color painted from factory. Those pieces are a PITA to paint cause they are plastic pieces and hard to prep/hold paint.

This is somewhat related to the 5th gen thread just because Im planning on installing these to my lude and Im in need of some good advice.

What are some good brands for AMPS and Subs? Nothing too expensive though, something that has a reasonable price but delivers quality bass.

I was looking around Futureshop and found these:

SUBS

Pioneer
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10060203&catid=11051&logon=&langid=EN

Rockford Fosgate
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FS10040582&catid=11051&logon=&langid=EN

Now with these kind of subs, which would work best for me?

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/class.asp?logon=&langid=EN&catid=1103

heh, I'm quite the novice here so I really don't know sh*t about this so Im asking for everyone's advice.

if you want quality subs, with your options I'd run the Infinity Amp and Pioneer Subs.
If you want thumping bass, the Rockfords are you best bet...

If you want the best, I loved when I had my Alpine Amp with my Type-S subs. JL's would be my top choice, but kinda outta my price range.

If you shop the marketplace you can find "steals"....lol, take that quote however you wish....

What are you gonna run, 10's 12's??

I dunno, maybe 2 10's... I think those should provide me with some good bass. I shopped around the marketplace and found this.

2x10" Infinity Perfect Subs in custom box $225
MTX 6500D Amp (667 actual rms watts!) $140 with bass knob

are infinity subs any good? Sounds like a good deal seeing as it comes in a custom box
and would the amps work for these 2X10 subs? will it have enough power?

here's the link to where I found these.

Infinity subs are very good IMO.....that's a good price for that, they're usually higher end. As for the amp, I'd match it with a digital Alpine one. My buddy just picked one up from the marketplace for cheap, it was a Alpine MDRF450.....

You'll need some more specs on the amp. RMS doesn't really tell the whole story. You'll need to find resistance, THD factor, usually found on the birth sheet....

Now can you tell me if this will work perfectly?:D
The guy selling it, which is apparently a certified installer for car systems told me he used this combination and it sounded really good according to him. I want a few more opinions on this before I jump into it. Thanks for the help guys.

I also found a Pioneer AMP for sale, Specs below.
http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135513

Peak Music Power: 760 Watts.
Number of Channels: 2.
Load Impedance Capability: 2~8 Ohm (Stereo), 4-8 Ohm (Bridged).
Continuous Power (4 ohm): 125W x 2
Continuous Power (2 ohm): 190W x 2
Continuous Power Bridged (4 ohm): 380W x 2
Frequency Response: 10Hz -50kHz.
Total Harmonic Distortion: 0.008% - Amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified - A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp.
Signal-to-Noise Ratio: 100dB - Measured in decibels (dB), this spec compares the strength of the desired signal (music) to the level of background noise - A higher value indicates less background noise.
Dimensions: 12 x 2-3/8 x 12-3/4 inches.

Question: Will this amp be a better choice to power the infinity subs I was talking about earlier in my previous post?
Which would be a better choice? The MTX6500 or this Pioneer one?

Well thank you for all your PM's everybody and also thank you for some advice here in this thread. After everything was said and done, I decided to pick up all the subs, amps and even installed a compustar car alarm/starter kit all brand new.

Here's a picture of my current factory deck which will be replaced by a full Alpine system next week. I'm also getting a custom made box for the Alpine subs. I thought it would be interesting to see the changes once they are made.

Factory deck and trunk space.

And finally, here are the brand new AMPS, 2 type S 10's subs, wiring kit and an Alpine DVD Lcd deck.

I've already told some people about this and most of them are showing some interests as to how this will turn out, so I thought I'd post it in this forum so everyone can see.

As promised.. here are some pictures of the newly installed deck. I hope I don't get jacked. I highly enjoy this system right now.. although I gotta admit, I coulda gone for type R subs instead of type S, but none the less, I'm happy with the turn out.
