I know here 5th Gens all came VTEC-ed but in Japan you think they still had the "SR" versus the "SR-V" option??

but they had the type S which puts out a wee bit more juice than the normal h22's

they refer to there cars as the si, sir, and type S

So I have been noticing from this thread that Turbo ludes are a pain in the ass and problem matic. What do you say about Supercharges...? I've read tones of threads on turbos but not to many on superchargers.

With Turbos I just don't like the fact that they run so hot and the fact that you have to have high RPMS to make power. Plus engine life is decressed with turbo kits were as supercharges not so much. IMO

I am really looking forward to doing one or the other next year and am slowly learning more and more about them day by day.

buh_buh
10-23-2006, 11:31 PM
I never had a problem with my turbo motor until I decided to build it. And I would probably do it again. When your doing modifications like this, you shouldn't expect everything to go without a hitch. Headaches just come with the territory. If you can't deal with stuff like this, then don't modify your car.

richardchan2002
10-23-2006, 11:54 PM
^But there's a point when its just too much! You have way too much patience...

Superchargers won't give you as much power, and depending on the style you go with, they may still have some heat issues. I know that my supercharger at 11psi ran super hot intake temperatures almost to the point where it wasn't too many more horses than at 7psi.

If I had to do it again, I would try to sacrifice the least in terms of daily driveability. Keeping A/C is a must for me, as is keeping the noise level at a decent level.

buh_buh
10-24-2006, 12:34 AM
I don't think I really put up with that much as far as headaches go. I'm just not in town 8 months of the year, so stuff just doesn't get done as fast ;)
And plus, I'm in too deep to give up now. And the fact that I've already gone through this once helps me get through it now.

10-24-2006, 09:49 AM

buh_buh
10-24-2006, 11:27 AM

Whats the biggest and baddest turbo kit you can put on and get the most power out of starting at 7 pounds of boost?(Daily driving purposes). Also which shop would be the best to talk to about getting it all done?

Also at the end of the day is is even woth turboing a lude or should a guy save and buy something else...?

1-Bar
10-24-2006, 10:02 PM
^buy something else....haha, that's what I did

Turbo integra, so little hassel with the whole process. Additionally there are more parts for the platform, something that I was very dissappointed w/ the lude.

But I do miss the lude, it is one sexy car.....

Premium Pearl White

I think its worth it. Big power + comfort at the same time. And with a big budget, I'd go with a full-race kit no questions asked.

legendboy
10-25-2006, 08:14 AM
full-race doesn't recomend their top mount for a daily driven car, at least thats what henry said to me on the phone! He said race only!!!

you don't necesserily have to get the top mount mani. They make a Pro Street bottom mount manifold for the H series too.

thats not for a 5th gen prelude, its for an H22. It won't work in a 5th gen. its for:

'96-95 Civic

'93-97 Del Sol

'94-01 Integra

'96-00 Civic

seriously guys full-race doesn't make a manifold for the you!!! haha

I think its kinda weird why they advertise on their site the top mount will work with only a half rad, after what they told me.

When i had my baby i had peters car in my garage for a month already. I had no time to fab something up and i was just going to buy him a full-race mani. When i talked with henry (and javier) they said they don't make anything that will work with a 5th gen lude without tons of modification ie.

removing the front engine mount, alternator relocation kit, custom radiator to fit inside the rad support opening

he said he doesn't recomend any of their mani's for daily drivers

Taking a turn to extreme left field here guys...

Anyways, my Lower ball joints are squeaking like a bed in the cecil...

According to honda and worldpac i need complete lower control arms (i'm a student eff that)

According to another source, I can buy them individually (30$each), but just outa curiousity has anyone actually just bought the BJ's themselves? I dont really want to put the time into taking it all apart to find out that they wont work...Or am I gonna have to be the guinea pig?

i know you can guy civic integra lca bushings. you need to take the lca off the car and press the old ones out and press new ones in.

i have seen someone burn them out with a torch but its very messy and smokie and takes along time

richardchan2002
10-26-2006, 03:37 PM
The ones I had on my old EK control arms got burned out. They actually caught fire (it might have been the WD40 I sprayed on them).

Anyway, from Honda, the bushings are quite pricey. You'd almost be better off buying brand new LCA's (omni-power or such). It'd be probably the same price after labour and everything.

ryder_23
10-26-2006, 04:16 PM
I'm not worried about the labor costs. Where can i get these Omni or whichever you guys recommend?

so cory, would you ever fab a manifold again? thats the question that i keep thinking of

MackDawg

Ok from the sounds of it its locating/ placement of the turbo that is the biggest pain in the ass...? I plan on going all out on this car so I would want to take it to a proffesional shop to get done. Is there such a place in calgary or would I have to take a road trip down south to get it all fabed up?

What type of maintences comes with turbos and Superchargers, such as more frequent oil changes? Burn of oil?...etc

Also for daily driver should it be in my best interest to turbo or super...keeping in mind I need reliablity in my vehical.

peace

Marc.

i have the greddy turbo kit for my prelude. Fitment wise, it was really good actually. I didn't have to relocate anything.
This kit is pretty good, if all you're looking for is a decent amount of increase in power. Don't expect extreme power out of this kit though.

I made 230whp at 11 psi. Could be a bit higher, but i ran into some issues and just waiting til next year to get back on the dyno for some more tuning.

back on topic: the placement of the turbo and the availablitiy of a equal length manifold are very very limited. You can run a big turbo (like one of our resident members) using a log style mani, or if you wanna go all out you can probably custom fab something but downtime will increase.

The greddy kit is nice, its expensive and the turbo is quite small. Most other turbo luders go with a revhard (if still available) and just upgrade the turbo.

I'm sure STRD can set you up with something good. One of their 4th gen's is putting some good power down with a GT35 turbo.

As for maintaing such a beast. More frequent oil changes/plugs, meters are good to monitor what's going on under the hood. Nothing major.

Like it was posted earlier, if you have a good tune, you need not worry too much about the motor.

Hope that helps

Been looking on the net all evening for turbos and have selected 3 that i am looking at.

Stage 3 Drag Gen turbo (T3/T4) kit... or Stage 2 Drag Gen Kit

18G Greddy turbo

Rev Hard T3/T04E kit.

I am gonna give ST a call tomorrow and see what they can get in

hey guys, just about to order wheels for the ride. finally decided on work emotion xd9's. now i need a little help here:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/lorenz000/IMG_0321.jpg

now i am stuck on the color choice, either bronze or the silverish gun metal. i like the silver ones but almost think that the color is to much like my ride, but than the bronze its a bit drastic.

Just seeing if anyone from the 5th gen prelude community is interested in this stuff...

I have a used Apexi VAFC I and a FROG OBD2-OBD2 ecu harness (plug & play) for sale. Looking to sell them as a set. Asking $300 OBO.

I also have some stock automatic parts left over from my swap like the shifter assembly, gauge cluster, engine & tranny ecu's, brake & accelerator pedals, etc... I'm open to offers on this stuff...

PM me if interested...

Flex pipe FTL. I second 1-Bar. Go to any muffler shop and get a new flexpipe welded in. That's what I did when I had my Prelude.

Okay, few things.

Anyone have an OEM flywheel? Freshly machined? or anyone have an aftermarket forsale?

Long story short, the old motor is taking a big trip to the junk yard in the sky, and swapping in new motor. DOing it friday, and replacing clutch and a bunch of other misc things. Howere, I probably wont have time to get to a place to get it machine/resurfaced whatever its called. So letme know if you have anything, or maybe some swap advice. thanks guys

richardchan2002

Yup, it only costs $50-$60. I've had a few of my flywheels cut there now.

ryder_23
11-21-2006, 04:19 PM
Is there a minimum machining of them like brake rotors? I'm not very familiar with flywheels, just not sure what kind of specs they fall under, or what exactly goes into "cutting them" . I gather though, they mostly just get glazed over so its an easy cut?

richardchan2002
11-21-2006, 04:38 PM
Yeah there are specs that you have to follow it's a lot like brake rotors. There's a certain thickness that's the minimum that you can machine down to. But if this is your original flywheel and it hasn't been machined before and hasn't been abused then you should have no problems.

Okay...well here i'm calling out some help...(yes i know hard to believe, eh arif ;) )

First...As some might know i'm doing a swap, and well running into some hassles that i want to kick car off jackstands and burn it to the ground. ok, to the point, fuel filter, replaced it when motor was out,k everything seemed good, lone and behold its leaking....yes i replaced gaskets, yes i tightened everything....question is, any technics to get at it with intake manifold on, and motor in? haha...I dont have a 5 year old child to help me get in there and get it off without ripping off the manifold...

second...I tossed it in, thinking oh i'll just tighten the crank bolt later (yah, i did tighten it when it was out of the car to about 80lb/tq , but forgot to do the rest)...we managed to get it to slightly over 100, but mystupid tool wont fit in the crank pulley, so i cant stop it from spinning...any advice?

for the record, its suppose to be 181...

ya crank bolt is 19mm. JUst to stop it from spinning. Anyone have any advice for taking the fuel filter out without removing the stupid Intake mani again?

Okay...fuel filter is doable with somewhat ease if you atleast remove upper intake plenum or whichever its called. My hands are sliced up, blleding and sore...and guess what...yep, she leaked again...going to get new gaskets from work tomorrow to stop that problem. Next problem, no spark? hahaha, beautiful isnt it... Checked honda tech, but deep down inside i know somehow the crank pos sensor got messed up during the swap or something and isnt functioning properly. I've tried to pull code using richards advice, but couldnt get anything to flash...thanks for the input/help guys

WANT TO BUY: 1997-2001 Prelude body kit parts

I figured I'd ask all the people that have Prelude's of the same kind if they are interested in selling their body kits. It's a long shot by hey you never know.

I'm just wondering if anyone has OEM or Mugen Sideskirts that they want to sell. Preferably black but it doesn't matter what color.

I'm also looking for an Mugen rear lip kit or an OEM rear lip kit would also work.

thanks a lot for the help.

I need some advice here, I'm planning on getting a Mugen sideskirts for my Prelude this spring. It's made of fiberglass and from what I've heard it's not the best thing to put on your car, yet at the same time I've heard good things about Mugen kits. I don't plan on lowering my car so it will only run on stock suspension. My Prelude is my Daily driver so will having this kit give me any problems during winter? What's your take on this? :dunno:

I don't plan on lowering my car so it will only run on stock suspension. My Prelude is my Daily driver so will having this kit give me any problems during winter? What's your take on this? :dunno:

Hey man, just letting you know that this may cost you a lot of money. Skyline_addict on here had them on his car and he told me they cost him something like $1200 bucks to get moulded and painted and stuff (I am pretty sure that is including parts in the price) Don't quote me on that but I am pretty sure that's right.

One thing I will say, if you are using it as your daily driver, please don't mold anything...

I ended up learning it the hard way, and for all the money I put into fixing it, god I could of bought myself a few different kits...when its molded, you get next to none flexibility, meaning you can hit anything, or the bumper can touch anything, and if it's fiberglass, it will crack, or spiderweb....

so watch out!!!!!!!!!

$1200?!
I spent less than 1200 on the entire kit, and 800 to paint the entire kit, including the entire rear bumper.

I had molded sideskirts on my old Prelude, and never had problems with it, but I never drove with them in the winter at all. My Prelude now has molded Mugen (replica) rears, and I've never had a problem with them in the 3 or 4 years I've had them on, which includes some winter driving.

I think his was a replica, so it took a lot of work to get them to fit on the car.

Can anybody tell me what are the sizes of the speaker in my 1997 honda Prelude?

I've tried doing a search on google and here on beyond but I can't find it. I tried the manual as well, but it's not there either.
