Cool, thanks man.
I guess 8h isn't bad. One garage quoted her $400 to swap the trannies. It sounds like too good of a deal, but she knows them, so maybe it's legit. I doubt theres too much that can go wrong
:dunno:

haha no i was just kidding.
400 for a tranny swap sounds like a good deal to me though but from the sounds of it they've never worked on a Prelude.

Anyone here have a mugen header?

Just wondering what size cat your using and what you used for a house flange (between header & cat)?

I'm confused on the size, 2.25"ID or 2.5"ID...

Heheh. I cut my cat out. From the header straight into 2.5" piping... :) Does the USDM Mugen header come with a flange on the outlet?

So, are you using a test pipe? What did you use for a gasket between the header and test pipe?

Yes, the mugen header (usdm conversion) has an outlet flange.

I'm looking for the parts that I would need to remove from the stock trunk and install on the cf trunk.

I'd rather buy new parts rather than removing the ones off the stock trunk.

I think all I really need is the trunk latch and perhaps those rubber stops...

I bought that spring tool remover from honda so I hope I can completely remove the stock trunk this weekend...

Pretty much. The 2.5" piping has an O2 bung welded in and is welded directly to the flex pipe. No flanges!

oops nm re-read your post.

Stopper tailgate (rubber stops #14)
78428-sX0-000

trunk lock (44)
74851-s84-a11 (should include parts 45,46,47)

After looking at the trunk it looks pretty complicated to get all that crap out :P

its not that hard to take it out.
Mine was taken out in like 10 minutes in a parking lot.
You would also need the cable and if the keyhole is still there you would need the lock too

D-Man
03-23-2005, 09:45 AM
We'll, the gemini trunk doesn't have the keyhole so I don't have to worry about the lock or cable.

The oem spoiler won't be going back on so I can coil up and hide the wiring harness.

I plan to remove the trunk tension rods.

So, really, I think the only thing that I would need to replace would be the actually latch. I can tell on the drawing what part number that is...

buh_buh
03-23-2005, 10:04 AM
you'll still need the cable so the trunk will actually pop when you pull the lever. If you remove both tension rods, the trunk will keep falling down everytime you open it and will be annoying as hell.

So, do I only remove one of them? I don't want the trunk to whip open...

When I saw your car last, did you have your trunk tension rods removed? I recall your trunk whipping open when you released the trunk...

Ya, I knew I'd need the cable...

D-Man
03-27-2005, 10:43 PM
Okay, I removed my stock trunk on the weekend with all associated wiring. I also removed 1 tension rod as well. Went pretty smoothly...

buh buh, did you have any problems with the alignment or the trunk not opening when you installed the cf trunk?

Your CF trunk can't open?? Perhaps you put the release cable on backwards or something....

well fitment wasn't great, but I made with what I had.
No problems opening or shutting though.

D-Man
03-28-2005, 10:11 PM
Why wasn't fitment great? Was it just the fact that you swapped it in a parking lot?

There doesn't seem to be that many adjustment options other than those 4 bolts.

buh_buh

no just a crappy trunk. Nothing to do with install.
You can adjust the height of the hinge if need be.

when you buy aftermarket body parts, fitament will always be an issue, unless we're talking about like Mugen parts (ie. parts made in conjunction with the original manufacuter)

Yup. All you can really do is adjust those four bolts and the two rubber stoppers. Other adjustments might be a bit trickier...

plus, phone books and a hot day can help issues out a lil bit too

buh_buh
03-29-2005, 10:15 AM
yea I've heard that too. Tried it last summer, didn't really help that much though. But I think mine is more of an issue with the tension bar pushing up the one side than it is crappy fitment of the trunk.

I can back that up, it worked on my hood last summer...my passenger's side was up a little bit, overnight and into the morning with some phone books and no more problems.

Also doing the same thing with my twisted spoiler!!

buh_buh
03-29-2005, 12:15 PM
yea i think im just gonna buy a new tension bar for the other side and take out the one that's already in there and see if it makes a difference. But I tried putting tons of shit on the one side of the trunk last summer (like 100lbs) and no dice.

D-Man
03-29-2005, 01:55 PM
I don't think aftermarket cf trunks come with pre-drilled holes to re-install those rubber bumpb stops.

buh_buh, what's wrong with the tension bar you have in your car right now? Is it damaged?

buh_buh
03-29-2005, 01:55 PM
no i cut one of them off so my trunk wouldn't shoot open so theres only a bar on one side, and the side that its on pushes that corner of the trunk up.

I removed one too so will I have the same issue with one side being pushed up? If that's the case, I might just remove the other. I don't care if the trunk doesn't stay open, just as long as it opens period...

buh_buh
03-29-2005, 02:02 PM
I wouldn't remove both, its so annoying having a trunk that doesn't stay open when you have 4 bags of groceries in your hands. My winter beater's trunk doesnt stay open and I don't even bother using it.

D-Man
03-29-2005, 02:08 PM
We'll see once I get the trunk on. If it's not fitting properly, then the other tension rod is history.

I don't think my trunk will have the holes to screw in those 2 rubber bump stops. Does yours?

Just a question and this has nothing to do with CF (cough*Chris*cough).

Is there any luders from Calgary that want to show at either DTP or SCN that aren't affiliated with a team?

The reason I ask this is that the EPC is putting together a show team and would be more than happy to accept any show worthy ludes from Calgary... I know Chris & Kevin will most likely stick with beyond :whipped:

I'd look for a private sale. Things I look for is how many km's, overall condition of exterior & interior, was it serviced regularily by a honda dealership (ask for proof of service records), was techincal service bulletins and recalls addressed, was the windshield replaced, etc... I don't think there is anything major you should be worried about... Definitely have it inspected mechanically by a trusted mechanic.

Yeah its available in the base.. its called an SE :poosie:
Leather heated seats with CF-like dash accents.. mines an '01 I think they started in the last production year of 2000 though for the SE.

Only major problems I have encountered are the stock (1 season crap) michelin tires, and faulty timing belt tensioner.

rc2002
03-30-2005, 11:31 PM
As far as I know, the SE was only available in 2001.

In 2000, there was only the base (cloth seats, no ATTS) and the SH (leather, ATTS) models.

*edit*
Just checked.
During its final five-year run Honda Canada sold three versions: the base and Type SH were offered through 2000, then in 2001 the Type SH was replaced by the Prelude SE.

http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jc/97-01prelude.htm

buh_buh
03-30-2005, 11:41 PM
Leather is only offered in 97-00 SH, and 01 SE. the 97-00 base had only cloth seats, and in 2001 only SE was available. SE is the same as a base, except with the SH goodies (cf dashkit, leather shift knob, leather seats and some other junk.

Dan you might be better off buying a base, then buying some leathers off someone. I actually know someone who is selling a set of leathers right now. Good luck:)

Just checked and mine are ZFR7F-11 Arif.

Terence, it's similar in design to an H22...but, I am only 2 liters...Higher compression...but can use all the H Series top end goodies (headers, intakes, gaskets, plugs, wires...and...ITB's:burnout:)

thanks again Kev and Richard...the info is greatly appreciated...but now...what about those pesky wires...I know Kevin you are using stock Honda's...but Mangacores...I had them in Cyclone and I notices a lil more throttle response...would it hurt to invest in a set of those...plus I mean Spilner loves and endorses them...haha..

Hey Arif, apparently the Denso Iridiums are the plugs to get for NA motors. Check out this spark plug tech guide from superhonda:

As far as wires go, I have the Jackson Racing ones. You might want to try to blue NGK ones. Apparently those are supposed to be decent. Although I have heard that sometimes it causes interference with the radio? :dunno: Don't know how true that rumor is though.

hey lude people, got a question for you.

My cousin is really interested in buying a fifth gen for his first car (baller).. since he doesnt know how to drive stick, im doing all the test drives for him. He has a few lined up, ranging from 11900 to 14000. My question is, is there anything special to look for when test driving, checking out the car??? Ulimately he'll get the car inspected before purshasing. But are there anything special to check for other than the regular stuff?

thx in advance

from my experience in shopping for preludes second hand, it is not a difficult thing to find a well-cared for prelude. most if not many prelude owners take extreme car of their cars. judging from the price ranges you are looking at, you should first, look at the condition of the car. the lower price may not necessarily mean there is anything wrong with it. there are other factors...the car hasn't had the 100,000 KMish tune up (timing belt, water pump change), owner wants it gone asap, which could attribute to the lower price of the car. remember, the price difference between someone who wants to sell right away, and someone who doesn't mind selling it later on can be as much as $1000 + dollars (if we are comparing 2 very identical cars)

depending on the year and the KM on the car, find out if it has had the timing belt etc. changed. have it mechanically inspected and then add up all the numbers. the 100,000 km tune up costs around $500 dollars.

not the same!
PSPEC and Lean both make true SS's for 5th gens and not just those crappy short shift kits. Not sure about 4th.
