Hehe. I guess an H22 OBD2 ECU won't work eh? That one's going to be junk soon.

Who's chipping your ECU? And how long do you need to borrow one for? I may be able to help you out. I can burn you the P28-H22 basemap and lend you my P28. Only problem is, I might be getting tuning done this weekend and will need it for then.

PS: If Chris' swap isn't happening AGAIN this weekend, then problem solved if you can borrow his! :D

PSS: Are you coming to pick up the seats this week?

NEED HELP ASAP!

I'm getting a custom high flow cat made by SMSP and I've requested the addition of an extra O2 sensor bung on the inlet of the cat so that I can connect to wideband for tuning.

However, he needs to know what position to weld it, i.e. 12 o'clock.

Can someone take a look around the front of their stock cat to see where the most room for another sensor would be? If your looking from the rear of the vehicle, I would need the position per 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock.

Can someone please help! I'm not close to my car and I won't be able to get to it for another 2 weeks and I need to get this done asap...

I'll figure out something for the ECU...otherwise...hmmm...

and for the seats...yeah it will prolly be this week or early next...

D-man, its usually the best idea to mount any O2 sensor vertically (12 o'clock position, or withen 30*). Reason being that moisture, especially during startup on colder days, can build up and cause the sensor to fail prematurely.

D-Man
04-13-2005, 07:27 AM
The only reason for the extra O2 sensor bung is so that the wideband can be connected while doing street tuning. When not in use, it will be plugged or capped.

I was told that any position between 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock would work but I'm also worried about access. I just want to be sure there will be enough room to install it...

On the stock cat, it almost looks like the secondary O2 sensor is in the 2 o'clock position...

hahaha....JRSC will work with a SS, you can also run a turbo but cannot boost that much. The only problem you'll have is with fuel tuning and there is 2 computers to control (engine/tranny).

There is a user on honda-tech (sharkeycohan) that's been running w/ the JRSC w/ a SS and runs fine. He uses EFI for fuel management.

You'll also want to look into a tranny cooler, this will most likely save your tranny from blowing up....

With the auto's, we are pretty much screwed on going FI period. Since you would most likely want to run a stand alone engine management system like Hondata or AEM, they don't support the automatic transmission (don't quote me on that).

Mind you, if you were to slap on a JRSC, you might be able to get away with using a VAFC but I'm not sure if I would trust just that tool. I think you would be limiting yourself on the power that you could produce (5psi max).

Then there is the transmission that probably wouldn't react well with all the extra power from a JRSC. You could spend a whole lot of time bullet proofing the auto trans but why.

To be honest, I would either do the AT to MT swap or trade the auto lude for a manul lude. Once you have a manual transmission, your have more options...

Ha, and this is coming for a guy who also has an SS :banghead:

no....VAFC is not good for tuning boosted vehicles not originally equipped w/ FI. 8-12 points fuel tuning will not do any good, you still need to adjust the ignition and timing....good way to blow up your ride.

And AEM/Hondata does not support Prelude SS applications. The older hondata does support auto, but we're SOL as SS is kinda different.....

yeah i hear you guys, i have done some reserch and talk to a few people and those who have a the JRS say that it runs fine on there lude. When i do get this product i will be getting a VTEC controller that is optional which helps with fuel managment and such, also the oil pump. I may Bullet Proof my tranny just because i can lol but all in all im thinking about getting everything here

http://www.jacksonracing.com/Browse/PlateMenuProducts.aspx?WebCatalogID=21&PlateTypeID=1

except the hoodie and gaskets and gauges. Along with some tranny work, so i think it might go well. Any other options? besides the auto to manuel swap because that hella money and plus i dont know how to drive a manny *hangs head in shame*

I'd recommend getting some other form of tuning. Hondata, uberdata, etc.. Then you wont need a vtec controller, because you can program in the optimal timing for vtec with those anyways

I'd get something you can control fuel and ignition timing with.
At the VERY LEAST I'd get a VAFC and an ITC.

VAFC is good for bolt on mods, also useful on top of uberdata/hondata as you can fine tune the tune.....if that makes any sense, also you can readily adjust your vtec point for long driving.

Also, if you get a VAFC II you can run 2 differnet fuel maps if you wanna go into 'economy' mode.....lol

doesn't the JRSC run a little longer then stock? so you have to cut the end that goes into the tb like 1"

rc2002

Yes true, but the blower also sits further back toward the firewall. For the short ram, there is more clearance and cutting might not be needed. But the cold air you'll probably definitely have to cut.

1)What is range of RIMS can I put on my 98 prelude with stock brake kit? (Ie 15's, 16's 17's)

2)Also, if I do a brake kit (brembo or others) will it fit with the larger rims?

15-20" rims you can slap on the lude.

Big brake kit requires 17" or bigger (AEM or brembo)

Hey guys, Kevin posted this on another forum. I thought I’d share. :P

Tires

Other sizes can be used, but these will be the majority of sizes used.
Where "Overall Diameter is Larger" is noted there maybe a problem with cars that are lowered.
These are only tires that are close to stock O.D., the offset of your wheels needs to be correct in order to prevent rubbing issues.
235 Width Tires are Not Recommended

Offset
These are only recommendations based upon comments from members of the board.
4th & 5th Gen. Stock = 6.5" Wide Wheel w/ +55mm
3rd Generation Stock = 5.5" Wide Wheel w/ +45mm

Note:
Most people who lower 5th Generation Prelude w/ aftermarket wheel equipped need to trim off a small piece of the rear bumper cover inside of the wheel well. You can trim is using a dremel, grinder, a file (take longer obviously), etc --- it is only plastic. If you put your hand inside the wheel well you will see what I'm referring to. See image below:

http://www.chicagolandpreludeclub.com/images/mugenlude/reartab.jpg

6.5" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.

Less than +38mm ::: You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.

+38mm to +55mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 6.5" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +55mm ::: You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

7" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.

Less than +38mm ::: Not Recommended

+38mm to +41mm ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+42mm to +44mm ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well.
+45mm to +50mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 7" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +51mm ::: Not Recommend. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

7.5" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.

Less than +40mm ::: Not Recommended
+40mm to +43mm ::: Not Recommended if you are, or plan to be, lowered. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well. Wouldn't recommend using any tire with an overall diameter larger than stock and/or with a tire width larger than 215.
+44mm to +47mm ::: This is a grey area if you are lowered, results vary depending on tire and/or drop. You take the chance of rubbing the outside lip of the wheel well. Wouldn't recommend using a tire with an overall diameter more than slightly larger than stock, you chances of rubbing increase.

+48mm to +52mm ::: You shouldn't have any problems. Recommended Offsets for 7.5" Wide Wheels.
Larger than +53mm ::: Not Recommend. You take the chance of rubbing the inside lining of the wheel well.

8" Wide Wheels w/ 4th & 5th Gen.
Not recommended without enlarging or rolling outside lip of wheel wells. Some people have had success with running offsets larger than +48mm, but you are taking a risk. The setup that is working for monk3y is 215/40/17 tires dropped about 1.5".

Stock Lug Pattern
5th Generation ::: 5x114.3
4th Generation ::: 4x114.3
3rd Generation ::: 4x100

SS is $25, you can run as many times as you want.
I'm not too sure about the Autox, i havent been to SS since that started. But basically you just need to pass tech, bring your registration (and if you don't own the car, you need a note from the owner saying your allowed to run the car), and that's pretty much it.

cover up your license plate and vin number. I've heard stories about insurance companies sending people out to the track and if you car is with the company, and they see it, they drop your insurance.

And of course if you crash or do any damage at the track that is not covered by any insurance!!

Does anyone have an extra set of 5th gen headlights kicking around or know of anyone willing to sell?

I'm also looking for the 5th gen front turn signals with the amber lense still intact...

For those with auto tranny's, when you shift into reverse, does your car roll backwards or do you need to touch the gas to get the car to move? I always found that when I shift into either reverse or drive, the car remains stationary until I touch the gas.

I've had other auto vehciles and they always seem to crawl so I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's a problem...

when I had mine, the car would roll forward/reverse depending if in drive/reverse....

all automatics should pull forward when you let go of the brake (at least all the ones I've driven), in rush hour traffic, I can just ease of the brake and ride it all the way down in cogested areas w/ no gas...

give your tranny fluid level a check...if the fluid is low then the transmission will be sluggish...as well as will not act how it should...

Just had the transmission serviced 3 weeks ago. Had a full tranny flush done...

What would cause the transmission not to crawl forward or backwards?

don't freak out just yet...but please check the fluid if you haven't...I KNOW you just had it serviced...but it's something I would do...

if it's not creeping fwd or backwards...its most likely the clutches aren't engaging within your tranny...and its pressure from the fluid that causes that to happen...so you see how important fluid is to that thing??...

one more thing that comes to mind...are you on a TOTALLY flat surface to test for your creepiness??

I'll check the fluids when I get home. I have added a tranny cooler so there is more fluid in the system but that shouldn't have any bearing on the pressure.

We'll, my g/f said she was having a problem backing the car out of the garage. She said that the car wouldn't roll backwards by itself and that she had to give it gas for it to move. Then I was thinking, I don't recall the car creeping forward ot backwards on it's own without pressing the gas...

^hmmm....sounds like you might need your tranny replaced soon. Those are some symptoms before it fails....read up on it on PO. Also if you can't 'manually' change gears, that's also a big symptom.....

I've seen this happen with a civic also, low fluid levels were the problem. However, if levels are low its important to determine the cause - the civic for example had a manufacturers defect in the bellhousing and was consequently cracked. Replacing an auto tranny without a hoist is not my idea of fun. Good luck!

This thread is alive again! :)

Hopefully I can contribute something useful: I found out the other day that (contrary to popular belief) that neither the blade style nor the SH style wheels will clear the spoon calipers without spacers.

yeah, with any caliper upgrade you need spacers for stock wheels. But careful though, because when you run spacers, its more likely that your wheels to be out of balance since the spacer may not be perfectly balanced itself. So if a thick spacer is required, maybe think about getting your wheels rebalanced with the spacers on.

Another NON-5th Gen related question... haha we really need a 4th gen dedicated thread..

Anyways...

How much work/is it possible to get this WING (http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&postid=1079128#post1079128) to mount onto a 4th gen trunk??

Thanks
:)

well its pretty much a basic spoiler install....if you trust yourself, you can DIY.

But it all depends on how it sits on the 4th gen trunk and if there is room for it to bolt on.

For install, make a mock cardboard of the spoiler and punch out the holes for attachment. Lay mock up on the trunk where you want it and mark the holes.....then drill away. Be sure to seal the holes with sealent and voila, your done....

Another question...

Can I fit 225/40/18 rubber on a 4th gen with no rubber... on a rim with 42 offset...
