they are WAY bigger than the 1st gen ludes.
I think anything after the EF is bigger than a 1st gen lude.

Yeah I know. I can only speak for myself, but the Prelude isn't really a nice car to begin with. Plus I don't make enough power to justify parking it for the winter.

I'm just lazy. I just don't want to deal with the hassle of changing out the front bumper, winter tires, brakes, raising the car and washing the winter grime off of it.

Hey guys I have a question.
I'm in the states right now, and found a pretty good deal on lowering springs.
I can get some Tein ones for about 150$ CAD
How much more will it cost me to install these?
Or could I do it myself with the help of a few friends?
Any suggestions?

What kind of springs...s-tech i believe there called? You can easily install them urself with basic knowledge a couple buddies, so jacks and jack stands, and a torque wrench never hurts. Took me 5hrs my first time, and had no idea what i was doing, i can now do all 4 corners in under 2hrs...

Oh, and about 70$ for a wheel alignment

Yea change of plans, I don'tthink I'm going to lower my car
unless the rims look totally digusting on it without lowering.
But it's pretty pointless to buy rims now anyways since summer is
practically over. Freaking weather.
Thanks for the help though.

You gotta get rid of our horrid stock wheel gap

But since it is somewht right before winter, might as well hold off. My car took a beating last winter with hwy driving all the time, and it being my main daily driver.

I love the lowered look, but with it in a way comes consequences

depending on what size rims and profile of tires you get, it'll depend. the stock ride hide wheel gap isn't horrible or anything, but doing anything to increase it will make it look worse.

buh_buh
08-15-2005, 09:08 AM
no your wrong. It wont depend.
It will look disgusting regardless if you don't lower it and get wheels. Please don't get wheels without lowering your car. I'd actually suggest lowering it before you get wheels.

Skyline_Addict
08-15-2005, 03:42 PM
^^ of course stock ride height still blows and lowering + wheels is always reccommended above anything else. i was just trying to say that riding on 215/40/17s is not nearly as bad as riding on 225/40/18 on stock suspension.

i would never reccomend riding on stock height on aftermarket wheels/tires indefinetely, i wouldn't even reccommend it with stock wheels/tires. but it's not the worst thing in the world, if you know you're going to lower it soon and have already got your new wheels on already.

arian_ma
08-15-2005, 07:24 PM
Well the way I look at it, I'm going to be driving this car all winter (I know I know) and I REALLY REALLY don't want to get stuck every morning in 3 feet of snow...
I know it won't make much difference, but lowering the car now is not going to help.
I think I'll just hold it all off until next April or so...

PS: I just got a greddy replica shift knob, I want to know what I need to buy to attach the shift boot to it now because the stock piece is just not for the greddy knob. (if that made any sense please help me out)

Skyline_Addict
08-15-2005, 08:40 PM
^^ makes sense, especially if you're not getting adjustable suspension. just wait till next summer then.

i think you're trying to say that the stock shiftboot sags too low below the shiftknob?

here's a clue...think about zip ties.

IncredibleToad
08-15-2005, 10:42 PM
elastic band (just like oem) like i said, the zip tie will also work

or u can just sell/trade me ur shift knob =)

arian_ma
08-16-2005, 04:57 AM
No no Skyline_addict you didn't understand.
My shiftknob and shiftboot are not attached at all.
So much damn work for a screw on piece god damnit! lol

What would you guys suggest for 500$?
(I want a LOT of things and can't make up my mind)

And DON'T say your C/F hood lol, I already thought about it.
It would be a waste for the winter.

*Edit: Oh btw...are we going to have a meet soon?

use that money towards maintanence, if you have any that's due or coming up.

rc2002
08-16-2005, 10:11 AM
You're going to need a new shift boot. To change that out you're going to have to take out your entire center console.

$500 isn't going to get you a hell of a lot. I'd get winter tires.

buh_buh
08-16-2005, 10:13 AM
you won't get stuck man.
I drove around all winter a couple years ago lowered 2" and a Mugen kit and I never got stuck once.

How much are you guys lowering your cars? I've got stock rideheight + wingswest kit and its quite low enough for me..sometimes a bit too low (damn curbs:banghead: )

rc2002
08-16-2005, 12:32 PM
I lowered about 2". As long as you're careful when driving, it's not too bad. But sometimes there are some surprises - bumps that you don't see, or hills that are too steep (especially in parking garages).

buh_buh
08-16-2005, 01:42 PM

Skyline_Addict

if I had 18s I'd definetely go lower...but that's already pretty low on 17s, especially with the front lip on. i might go with about 1 finger, we'll see ;).

anyways another question.
I got my jdm license plate and I'm just figuring how to put it on to the front bumper. those of you who have oem fronts should know that there are two little plastic buttons in the middle of the front bumper. i'm guessing this is wear you secure the license plate? tough part is figuring out how to take those buttons out (assuming they can be). anyone have any suggestions?

thanks.

rc2002
08-16-2005, 07:22 PM
I've never paid attention to those before. But then I've never had an OEM front bumper on either. Most Honda clips are a bitch to take out - you end up breaking them trying to get them out.

Try drilling through them to mount your license plate. But make sure that it's still strong enough to hold your plate in. If it's not strong enough then drilling them out will ensure that they come out easily. :)

1-Bar
08-16-2005, 08:47 PM
I would take off the bumper and see if you can access it easier through the backside as well as the front side. As for 18 vs 17, the overall diameter of the wheel/tire is the same (or within reason)

Skyline_Addict
08-16-2005, 09:37 PM
^^ hmmm, sounds simple, but would take great discretion to do properly..... i'll see what I can do, maybe I'll ask honda how to do it with the least risk and difficulty.

^^^ i'll give that a try as well.... overall diamater is also very dependant on the tire. if you're riding on 35 profiles on 18, and 45 profiles on 17, then yes, it's virtually the same.

1-Bar
08-16-2005, 10:06 PM
taking off your front bumper is ez man :) 2 screws in the fender wells, take off your front turn signals and some clips, done....

Skyline_Addict
08-16-2005, 10:39 PM
^^ i'll do it...sometime...
hehe

buh_buh
08-17-2005, 09:48 AM
225's on 18's doesn't necesserily mean your rolling on the same rolling diameter. 225/35/18 is about an inch off of 225/40/18.
But when buying tires you should be as close to stock rolling diameter as possible anyways.

And you can pop those clips off.

Well, for a small fee, I could hook it up for you. :D

Actually it's really quite simple. Unbolt the kick plate on the passenger side (4 10mm bolts) to expose the ECU. Tap into VTEC pin. Then you're done!

Go here and open a VTEC AFC manual if you want to know where the VTEC pin is.

Out of curiosity, how many hoses did you hookup? Just the one off of the passenger side of the valve cover?

I know that there's a ton of ways to do it - I was reading up on Honda-tech and getting really confused...

1-Bar
08-18-2005, 02:24 PM
you can put the catchcan inbetween the line (between the crank case and the intake to the manifold) Or you can just put it off the crank case and have a breather filter on the other end of the catchcan.....

Skyline_Addict

hey guys,

i've been having some electrical (probably directly related to battery) problems today. sometimes all electronics would just shut off - stereo, all gauge readings drop to 0, VAFC resets, signal lights (i think). the engine still runs during this time, which seems to be very short, anywhere between 1-2 seconds, and powersteering, brakes, etc. still work fine. this is shortly after i had problems starting the car at work. it took about 5-6 turns of the key before it started. this has never happened before. i check all fuses and what not, and everything is still connected to the battery, as far as i know. is this just a sign that i'll need a new battery soon, or could it be something else?

1-Bar
08-18-2005, 05:47 PM

Skyline_Addict

buh_buh
08-19-2005, 10:37 AM
im not sure whether its battery related.
If your battery ran out of juice while you were driving, your car would just die just as if your alternator died.
But it doesn't hurt to try another battery. I got my stock one sitting in my garage if you want to try it.

Budget of around 1000-1500$. If the rubber is included in that price or for anything under 2000$ that would be best.

Preferrably new...I don't want to buy used unless they're clean.

weight well not really but...you know I don't want to roll on 60 lb rims.

I was looking for you guys to help me out with some brands.

And lastly I'm not putting the rims on until next summer.
I think I might just wait just in case new rims come out for the 06?

1000-1500 just on rims can get you some very decent rims in 18". shop around, with that price range you should be able to find a few that you like, then pick the one that suits you best. keep in mind that rubber (middle of the line) will cost you another 600-700.

If you're not in a rush to put them on, save your money...wait for shops to have clearance sales/discounts or for some nice used rims to pop up on beyond.

On a personal preference, I've always liked Volks, Work Wheels, O.Z, Enkei, etc.
