INDEX:
-Engine Codes: Page 1
-Wheel and Tire Size Info: Page 11

I'm feeling left out since everyone has one of these...

Anyway, let's start with the CEL codes (borrowed from TPC):

To find the CEL Code:
In order to get the code you'll need to find the service connector. On the 5th Gens it's on the right hand side of the centre console underneath a carpeted panel that just pops right out. The connector looks like a telephone connector and is plugged into a blue plastic piece that just serves as a holder. Unplug it and you'll see that it has two sockets in it that lead to two wires.

You'll need a small piece of wire for this. Make sure the car is off. Just connect the two ports in the service connector together with the wire. After you've shorted the service connector, turn the key in the ignition to the on position (you don't actually need to start the car) and the yellow engine light will flash at you. There will be a series of long flashes, short flashes, and then it will repeat itself. Count the number of long flashes and short flashes and this will give you the MIL code. 2 long flashes and 3 short flashes is code 23. Once you've found the code, turn the key back to off and remove the wire from the service connector. You can look up the code in the following list.

MIL Codes:
3 Manifold Absolute Pressure Signal

My girlfriend bought one of these ('97) with a tiptronic......and the tranny is fucked. Won't even go in reverse or anything. Apparently it's a major problem with the honda tiptronics or something. Do any of you guys know the best way to fix the problem, or the best route to take? Replace tiptronic, 5spd swap, etc. Maybe someone else on this board has had the same problem.

Thanks

I heard that at one point Honda recalled almost all of the tiptronic ludes for new transmissions... maybe her car was affected but never made it to the dealership?

Worth a try, check it out.

I think that was only for the 2000-01's....all previous model year owners were SOL. I'd like to swap a 5spd in there to avoid having to deal with this again, but the chance of finding a 5spd donor car is pretty slim.

You are correct, you are SOL if you have a 97-99 SS Lude. You can also try and find a 4th Gen wrecked prelude SRV for the donator of parts (ie. tranny) or anyother 4th Gen for pedals...etc for a 5 speed swap.

But if your in need of a tiptronic tranny, I will have one soon (since I'm doing the 5 speed swap)

Yeah I think that would be easiest, straight swap. If your tranny has no problems whatsoever I'll definitely be interested. Thanks for the help:thumbsup:

for NA - fidenza/clutchmasters or Jun flywheel
for turbo - oem flywheel

for a clutch, Exedy organic is a good oem replacement. If your looking for something that'll hold a little better than a stock clutch, I'd go with the ACT HDSS for pretty much any app.

rc2002

How about Spec clutches? I'm looking at the stage 3 Spec clutch right now... What are you using right now buh_buh?

buh_buh
02-11-2005, 02:12 AM
I'm using the ACT 6 puck. You can try it out once winter's over Richard.
I've heard good and bad things about Spec, nothing about them on Hondas though.
If money is no object, I'd go with the ACT XTSS for drivability and its ability to hold power.

what do you recommend for someone running alot more power then stock, like urself?? Something that will hold up to the abuse, and power you can throw at it :D Yet somewhat affordable

buh_buh

ACT 6 puck. I think its the HDR6. That's what I'm using, and its the cheapest clutch ACT makes for our car haha.

Anyone have a stock shifter for a 4gen lude they would like to get rid of? Apparently it bolts into my car directly, with a shorter throw.......

buh_buh
02-11-2005, 02:21 PM
theres only a couple companies that makes a real short shifter for 4th gen Preludes (not just a lever/adapter). Most were guys on Prelude forums who did it. One is the 4bidden (thats just the guy's username), PSPEC (just came out this year), C's (discontinued a few years ago), and a Pure Racing (also discontinued).

don't need to get calipers or rear brakes....get good pads and rotors up front. I'd say brembos and some axxis cobalt pats.

rc2002

I'm definitely in too. But the end of April might not be best for me. I leave the country on April 30th and I don't know when my last exam is...

rc2002
02-18-2005, 10:10 AM
I'm with Chris on that one. I have goodridge stainless lines, brembo slotted rotors, and axxis ceramic pads and I'm very happy with the performance.

Calipers are :bigpimp:. I'm a big fan of the spoon ones, but you'll need spacers if you run them on your stock wheels. A big brake kit is expensive and also might not fit your stock rims...

Yeah, i should of been more clear.

I'm looking at new rotors in general. My front/rears are warped pretty badly, so i'm looking for something a little stronger. Brembo rotors seem to be the weapon of choice for most people, as well with axxis pads. Any recomendations on where to pick this stuff up?

Are the motor mounts supposed to reduce wheel hop? Do you know if it raises the engine at all? My hood just barely closes right now. :)

Just found this thread and was wondering if anyone else has noticed that the 5th gen prelude is terrible for the rock chips? Not sure if it is the paint they use in Japan or what but our civic was built in N. America and the paint seems to stand up to way more abuse. My preludes front end has even been replaced and was quality work and the chips are still abundant... not sure if it is the angle of the hood or what. Maybe the color or pearl paint? Its Electron blue... anyone else notice this? The new body kit isn't going to look so pretty anymore. Was thinking of going with 3m coating but not sure if I like the look. Cheaper than a new paint job I suppose.
