HAHA thats funny, TLC just had a show about expensive cars on 'Rides'
Well the most expensive car on the planet is the original Rolls Royce Silver Ghost 1907 called 'THE Silver Ghost' (I think thats what that was called) Its placed in a controlled envirnoment in England when its parked. They based the cars value on insurable value at $40,000,000:eek: Get this:

"That original Silver Ghost (yes, the very car) is still running. It has accumulated more than 500,000 miles since built and has yet to receive a teardown and rebuild of the kind associated with most antique and classic show cars. The company is understandably cautious with public appearances, so you won't spot it driving down New York's Park Avenue or London's Regent Street, but the Silver Ghost is shown at special events"

it was also mentioned on barrett jackson that the most expensive car to ever be sold(keep in mind there is a huge difference between insured value on a car like the silver ghost that would never be sold, and what someone actually payed as far as market value goes) was a Bugatti Type 41 Royale Sports Coupe and it was auctioned off in Japan on April 12, 1990 for $15 million, only 6 of them were built, and yadda yadda yadda...useless trivia :P

It's hard to base "most expensive" on auction results from the late 80s early 90s. There was a HUGE collector car bubble. Prior to that, prices were diven to levels never seen before (or yet again). For example, SEVERAL Vintage Ferraris sold for MORE than GBP20 Million. Ferrari F-40s were trading at over a million USD, Testarossas were over 300K USD, etc etc...

That Bugatti is probably worth a "mere" 6 Million today!

BTW, Barrett Jackson is a joke...

no car sold for more than 20 million at auction(let alone 20 million pounds), I think guiness would have that one on record...
yes, there was a huge collector car bubble, the most expensive ferrari F40 at the time I believe went for 1.8 million USD, but in terms of the super rare, they will never fall to a value as low as you suggested, there are only 6 of those bugattis in existance. The auction prices were largely inflated by the fact that ferraris were all the rage in the early 90's, now it's about the custom, if you look at the price on some of the cutom vehicles that have gone through auction you will see that while they used to fetch $30k or something similar it is now not at all uncommon for them to reach low to mid 6 figures(understand that by custom car, I don't mean that a civic will ever be worth any more than it's sticker price no matter what you do to it)

That just seemed weird that the worlds 'most' expensive car would be just driven like it was a daily driver. The guy was just cruisin it around pebble beach. Some ppl just have unique taste to say the least. Did u see Tim Allens Hemi inside a ford truck. Hella ugly but damn it was a monster.

Something about the Buggati (Cost $42,000 in 1931 <--Depression era)

Somewhat of an interesting read about the prince of brunei and his cars! (personal collection of 5000+ and donated 31 Rolls-Royces for the Dubai Shopping Festival as prizes)

Somehow the 1907 Rolls Royce is a fitting winner.
I couldn't think of a better car to get the title.

According to Forbes Magazine, this is the most expensive car in the world:

The world's most expensive car is up for sale. And whether or not you think it's worth the estimated $10 million asking price, it's no doubt exceedingly rare, beautiful and--like many follies in automotive history--a triumph of hubris over reason.

This Bugatti Type 41 Royale was the brainchild of Ettore Bugatti--and also a hugely expensive misstep in the history of his firm. In the 1920s, Bugatti was expecting to get a contract from the French military to build 16-cylinder aircraft engines. The contract never materialized, but Bugatti felt he could use half that engine, a straight eight, to form one of the most amazing luxury cars in history.

The Type 41 Royale engine had massive displacement: 12.7 liters, or over 700 cubic inches, roughly twice the size of most of the largest production V-8s that would be built by Detroit four decades later. This is still the largest engine of any car to be sold privately.

Equally massive was the 15-foot wheelbase which, when bodied, stood about five feet tall at the hood alone. The car was incredibly imposing, whether in limousine or coupe form. Unfortunately, however, nobody could afford them--production began right at the start of the Great Depression.

A mere six Royale's were produced and two were never sold, staying instead with the Bugatti estate. This car, the 1930 Bugatti Type 41 Royale Kellner Coach (or 'Coupe') was one of those cars (bricked up behind a false wall during World War II). It stayed with the family until 1950 when both cars were sold to American multimillionaire Briggs Cunningham, who was himself a sports car constructor and Le Mans 24-Hours racing driver. After more than 30 years of ownership, Cunningham eventually sold the car to fellow American auto connoisseur Miles Collier, who placed the Kellner Coach up for auction in 1987.

The car sold for a record £5.5 million at London's Royal Albert Hall before an audience of 4,000 enthusiasts. Now the present anonymous owner--believed to be Japanese--has commissioned Bonham & Brooks in London to offer the Bugatti Royale for resale to anyone willing to pay the asking price. (Offers should be made through Bonhams' offices in London: 011 44 20 7393 3822.)

Forbes Fact
More Royale engines by far were used in SNCF (French National Railway) locomotives than in cars. The French government bought several hundred of these motors and used them in pairs and even in triplicate to pull passenger railcars. Sadly, none of these engines are believed to have survived the war.

Its not in production yet. Its not the fastest car and it doesnt have 1001hp. Until this car goes into production and somebody test all the claims its pretty much Vaporware for cars. People have been talking about this like its on the road already since 2001

I don't care how much power it is, or if its the worlds fastest car...? I was just stating what I read on "MSN Today" some time ago.
