trying to gain weight

- don't do cardio before or after you workout

- do it in the morning on an empty stomach on your off days

- 65-75% of your max bpm, for 30mins is fine

- helps with recovery, metabolism

- make sure you keep your calories up on off days aswell as on days.

As far as cardio goes, it depends on what your goals are. If your goals are primarily to gain mass then cardio is taking you away from that goal. However if your goal is to get in better physical condition all around, then cardio is a great variation when combined with weight training.

Many people I see focus so much on gaining mass that physically they become slow and sluggish, in my opinion variation is the key.

For a substitute to crunches you can put weights under your chin, or you can do "reversed crunches" where you lie flat on your back and lift your legs up crunching your knees against your chest.

I find they are more challenging than crunches alone:thumbsup:

Well trying lose I would

- gradually lower cals, calories out > calories in

- high protein, moderate carb diet, low fat food intake

- morning cardio on a empty stomach 5-7 times week

- avoid simple sugars/carbs , except asap after training

- I still wouldn't do cardio before or after a workout

- keep workouts intense, with shorter rest periods (~ 1min)

- possible introduce a fatburner after couple weeks

There are many ways to lose bf! For me if I lower my carbs too much I lose lean mass too quickly. Another way that works for many, is a keto diet. Search for the word ketosis in google or something.. keto diet with a cheat day/ carb up day .. works wonders for some!!

for someone that is just starting, I say eat clean, and get in the gym and learn!
