My fiance really wants me to get her a box turtle as a pet. We have an aquariam and everything now all I need is a turtle to put in it. Her bday isn't until beginning of March and I thought I would surprise her with one but I haven't been able to find a turtle at any pets stores. I found tortoises but they grow to be 14inches and cost almost $600. If anyone has one they don't want or would like to sell please let me know. Or if you know of someone who breeds them let me know. Thanks

Doesn't anyone have one they no longer want or know of someone who would be willing to sell for a reasonable price? I tried all the major pet stores in Calgary and no one carries them. There was a rumour that they were illegal in Alberta but they aren't they are just rarely found.

Its not illegal to have turtles as pets in Alberta. I checked with a couple of pet stores. Pisces Pet Emporium had a few in but they sold very fast, the best way they said to get one was through a breeder or bargain finder.

The petland right down the street from you has some. I think they were on sale too.

Those are tortoises.....hence they have legs and feet...what I want is a turtle with flippers that stays small. Tortoises grow to be way to big for the aquarium I have but thanks anyways

Males have bigger tales and concaved undersides, females have tiny tales and totally flat undersides.
