i enjoyed that race for sure, rain, tire changes, PASSING! bad luck for mclaren and JPM again, but how about JV finishing 6th :D and wtf monteiro 8th. up until these last 2 or 3 races, i thought kimi had a legit chance of taking the championship, but it's starting to look pretty bleak for him.

Kimi is going to have to wait till next year...he may have the best package but Fernando is going to take it this year he has 25 pts in hand with 3 race to go

ya its looking that way, but then again you never know what next year could bring. new engines, a couple extra new rules. we could be surpriseed next year, just like this year when renault came out and dominated for the first bit of the season, and ferrari did nothing.

/////AMG
09-11-2005, 08:18 AM
Yea it's true Kimi probably doesn't have a chance now but you never know.
He almost lost it just after the start, was very wobbly at one point.
Can't blame MS for smacking him one, he was getting the fastest laps and catching up!!

Anyone know when A1 Grand Prix is starting? Saw adverts today but they just said "Coming Soon":thumbsdow

What got me was why the HELL did people go to slicks when the track was obviously slippery as hell? :dunno: Massa I can understand, because there was an obvious dry line out there, but I mean, with the slicks halfway through... wtf? :bullshit: :bullshit:

Confirmed: Heidfeld signs a long term deal with the new BMW/Sauber merger team

Rumored: Jensen Button will stay at BAR Honda next year after a deal was reached with Williams that will pay Sir Frank's team $18 million in multi-year payments, paid for by Jensen. Also rumored is that Button will be signing a 5 year, $80 million deal with Honda. According to Autosport-Atlas, official confirmation could come as soon as Wednesday.

so it's finally official, 2005 champ is Fernando Alonso! awesome race for the mclarens, first 1-2 finish in some 5 years. i think itll just start to get interesting now...Alonso has clinched the title, so he no longer has to be conservative in the last 2 races. hopefully we will be able to see some good mclaren vs renault battles in the final 2 rounds.

To johny-public that is going to be the case, true...but for the corporate side of Mclaren-MB, the constructors champ makes the big difference.
Though the drivers champ makes all the difference to the viewing public, the corporate world, specifically those involved with Mclaren-MB team sponsership, and thier manufacturing partnerships, the constructors champ means more...specifically $$.

Alonso's happy he beat Kimi. He only beat Kimi when his equipment failed him. Alonso claims he didn't have the best car. Well, it was his car's reliability and Mclaren's unreliability that got him the title.

Ah stop grousin, Rage :poosie:

Next year is now set up for a huge battle... Button/Barichello with Honda, MacBenz fronting JPM and Kimi, and Schumi's stated desire to be on the top again... and with the new V8's coming, as well as aerodynamic limitations and such... it's going to be one hell of a season.

I'm really looking forward to watching Barichello drive the shit out a BAR Honda :D :D

Honda acquire BAR team

Honda have underlined their determination to win the Formula One World Championship by taking over the BAR team. Less than a year after purchasing a 45 percent share in the team, Honda has agreed to acquire founding owner British American Tobacco's 55 percent majority share. Honda will complete the purchase of the remaining shares by the end of 2005.

The acquisition was announced in a press conference held by Honda in Tokyo on Tuesday, ahead of their home grand prix at Suzuka this weekend. This race will also mark Honda's 100th grand prix with BAR.

Agree 120%! simply amazing, with all the passing. From the pass Kimi made onFisichella, to schumi defening both kimi and alonso. Fantastic, im speachless!!!

also, the Speed people finally said something intelligent:

" the two passes alone is better than 200 passes in Nascar."

when alonso cut the chicance he got past klien, but then let him back by, and slingshot past him again on the front straight. but then the fia contacted renault and said that fernando had to let klien back through, at this point he was past schumacher i think, but then had to go back behind klien 2 spots down. after that, the fia contacted renault again and basically said nevermind, its ok fernando can keep going, but it was too late.

my opinion, best pass of the race, Alonso sweeping past MS through 130R...holy fuck that was ballsy, 180mph corner, and alonso just stayed in it and commited to the corner, that was an awesome pass. what a great race!

The alonso pass at 130R was overhyped. Schuey made a mistake by leaving the door open on the outside, Alonso was there so schumey has to either brake or die. Alonso just took the regular line. After the pass, schuey always commited on the outside line making it impossible for kimi to do anything.

Knockout qualifying for 2006

Plus tyre changes to return during the race

An exciting new qualifying format will be used to determine the starting grid at Grands Prix next season. The ‘knockout’ system - the preferred choice in a poll of over 150,000 formula1.com users earlier this year - will replace the existing single-lap format.

Following approval from the FIA World Motor Sport Council on the Wednesday, the one-hour qualifying session on Saturdays will now be split into three distinct parts, each with multiple drivers on track simultaneously, and each with the drivers running as many laps as they want:

Part one: All 20 cars may run laps at any time during the first 15 minutes of the hour. At the end of the first 15 minutes, the five slowest cars drop out and fill the final five grid places.

Part two: After a five-minute break, the times will be reset and the 15 remaining cars then will then run in a second 15-minute session - again they may complete as many laps as they want at any time during that period. At the end of the 15 minutes, the five slowest cars drop out and fill places 11 to 15 on the grid.

Part three: After another five-minute break, the times are reset and the final 20-minute session will feature a dramatic shootout between the remaining 10 cars to decide pole position and the starting order for the top 10 grid places. Again, these cars may run as many laps as they wish.

As an added twist, an element of suspense and pit strategy remains entwined in the new format. In the first two 15-minute sessions, cars may run any fuel load and drivers knocked out after those sessions may refuel ahead of the race.

However, the top-ten drivers must begin the final 20-minute session with the fuel load on which they plan to start the race. They will be weighed before they leave the pits, and whatever fuel they use in the 20 minutes may be replaced at the end of the session.

In other changes approved by the Council for 2006, the rule limiting a driver to a single set of tyres for qualifying and the race will be dropped. Tyre changes will be allowed during the race, though drivers will be limited to seven sets of dry-weather tyres during the weekend. Tyres used in qualifying and the race must be of the same specification.

The Council also approved a package of measures for the 2008 season. These include the introduction of the FIA's Centreline Downwash Generating wing, larger wheels with slick tyres and a single tyre supplier. The package will be brought forward to 2007 if an 80 percent majority of the Formula One Technical Working Group agree to do so before the end of December 2005.

Still not a fan of this part. Qualifying should be based on the absolute maximum peformance of car and driver. It should be done with minimal fuel loads so we can see what these machines are capable of (like in the old days).

Yeah bring back the one hour 12 lap free for all qualifying, it hasn't been the same since they started the single lap crap. Apparently tire changes will return in 2006 which is good but get rid of those damned grooved tires, I'd like to see a return to real racing slicks. Hopefully they'll retain tire competition as well, I don't like the sounds of this single manufacturer control tire.

yeah...makes for a more interesting qualifying, but it doesn't make for a very exciting race....the cars basically start in the finishing order, relative pit strategies determine the outcome of the race moreso than the driving

by the way, i don't know if you guys have been keeping track but adrian newey (mclaren's lead technical director) is now with the redbull racing squad, which is such an unexpected move, what are your thoughts on this?

newey is responsible for the cars which won hakkinen's 98/99 championships as well as the fab william's chassis of the mid-90s. (JV won in 97 with his car)

It wasn't really unexpected. There were rumors mid season about him moving when he extended his contract for 6 months in the summer. He's been talking about quitting the sport or moving elsewhere since 2004.

i thought it was unexpected in that he joined red bull racing of all teams, i woudl have thought he might just leave the sport or join another high profile team perhaps going to the new BMW squad or what not. it seems like an odd thing to do to go to red bull, but it'll be interesting to see how it all turns out since they have a customer supply of ferrari engines now as well.

as for JV, i think his time has come for him to move on. i mean i love this guy and i'm a huge fan of his but man....2005 was not exactly the season i expected him to have, he got taken to school by a younger, less experienced team mate, who hasn't even won a gp yet or come close to. BMW paying him $15m to bug off is a pretty harsh slap in the face to him though. if i were him i'd just bow out instead making a fool out of myself for another season and losing even more respect.

nick heidfeld is a much better driver than felipe massa is too....

i think JV has enough talent to have large success elsewhere, he should try his hand at WRC or go back to indycars....NASCAR maybe? that would be interesting. i think he should do a le mans run before he's too old as well.

At the start of the season, JV was slow because he wasn't alllowed to setup his car the way he likes...later on in the year, JV matched FM's speed and was even faster towards the end of the year because the team gave him more freedom on the setups.

It is very misleading just looking at qualifying performance because JV likes to qualify with a lot of fuel whereas FM almost always run light... it is very rare to see them pit a lap apart.

I am one of those people who believes JV will be driving for BMW Sauber next year.... up until the news about the new team name a few days ago, there has been absolutely no official announcement on the team name, technical director, team manager (still don't), car livery (still don't), etc.... so you see, there really isn't much confirmed news about the BMW Sauber team as of yet.... but the media tends to focus on JV because they have nothing better to write in the off season.

BMW: No Decision on Villeneuve Yet

Even though Formula 1’s winter testing sessions start in less than two weeks’ time, BMW insists it has yet to decide on the future of 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve with the team.

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen affirmed to autosport.com that the team remains undecided on the Canadian, who signed a two-year contract - expiring bt the end of 2006 - with the Sauber team, prior to the takeover by the German manufacturer.

Finally! Villeneuve confirmed at BMW Sauber! In my mind there was never a doubt who would be in the race seat, but this news certainly quieted all the doubters.

FIA Rejects Aguri Suzuki Entry in Formula 1

IndyCar team owner Aguri Suzuki has failed in his last minute attempt to gain an entry for next year’s World Championship, and thus his team does not figure on the definitive list issued by the FIA in Paris this afternoon. The news leaves Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson with no chance of securing race drives for 2006.

I can't stand that guy... he is not in F1 yet (maybe never will) and he is already making enemies there... lol....

He is quick in Champ Car (he has the best car in the past 2 seasons), but he also crashes into people a lot in the past. F1 is not a series that you can push your way through the field, especially in an inferior car. I personally don't think he would be an instant successful in F1 even if he makes it.

and the thing is he thinks his in the same league as All the top drivers in mclaren and ferrari. As a "NEW" team, BMW can benfit much more from JV's experience than some chump rockie like him.
