Anyone have any experiences with E39 5 series?
97 540i 6sp. 103K I found it at a dealership and the car looks great, has a Schnitzer kit and 18" Schnitzer wheels. I am thinking about it but I don't know much about how reliable these cars are. Another option is to just get a newer (e46) 3 series. If any of you guys own a 540 let me know how it's been for you. Thanks.

which dealership was it at? how much were they asking?

i kno a guy that used to own one, he said it was good to him and he would'nt hav sold it if he didnt have to (had a couple more kids, so needed something bigger). but then again he only owned it for 2 years.

I have owned a 98 540i for almost a year and i think its fantastic. V8, 6 spd, m-technic suspension how can you for wrong? Lots of power, handles quite well for a sedan yet also has the luxurious ride and options. Ive done many mods to mine and there is a lot of aftermarket upgrades for them. I am second owner of Mine, and it as 120k on it and it has had no major work, just a few minor repairs(heater resistor blew, rad connection broke) and just basic maintenance. Im am bias but a big fan:thumbsup:

Thanks of your input. I know the rads are pretty bad, acutally just the connecting bends. I've just always heard that bmw have quirks like electircal, cooling, and suspension problems.
Statick,
the car is at Kramer Mazda. It is looks amazing with that subtle kit and those rims. Asking $27,900. The Schnitzer stuff is so pimp

My sister owned a 98 540i.
The car has alot of torque.
Very comfortable to drive in but kinda expensive to maintain.

Your right it was the connection bend on my rad that broke unfortunatley they are plastic but fortunatley a brand new rad is only $200.I paid 25K for mine with 110k on it, it was a private sale through a friend though.
