Hey i just got a 93 Acura Integra from my dad im still young and dont have many skills. i have some rust on the bottom edge of my trunk that i want to get rid of.. is there anything i can do at home like grind it down reshape it with bondo and like prime it paint it.. or do i need to do all the welding stuff.. which would be easier for me to take it to a auto collision shop.

rust spot is about finger lengths long.. and about finger nail length high.... please let me know...

Thanks

cut it out, weld in a new peice of metal, sand it, prime it and paint it. Once rust starts tho, it's like cancer, even if you think it's gone, it comes back to hault you down the road.

BTW, you can ask about costs involved in the same thread, no need to create another.

You can also buy a used trunk if you can find one - it may turn out to be a cheaper fix.

get that rust repair spray from canadain tire, grind out all the rust, spray the stuff on it, then just fill with fibreglass, ya its not a lifetime guarentee but it works. i just finished my car and got it painted and its lasted for 6 months with absolutly no rust coming back.

are you talking about the rust inhibitor stuff that they sell at canadian tire that acts like a primer? it's around $10-12 i think. i was thinking about buying that for some rusted nuts and bolts.

isn't rust proofing only good for new cars? or does it also work for old cars?

i've got an old 92 beater that had cancer when i bought it, i've got it rust proofed for the last two years and i haven't had any spread of the cancer. like the one post said, its a cancer, might think it's gone but it's not. u could always get body work done, but i doubt its cheap and if your using my train of thought, it's an old car that you want to keep road worthy until you buy another........so the money to repair would be better spent sitting in savings for a downpayment later........just my opinion though. take it to a rust proofing specialist, i take mine to krown, not sure if they have it where u are..........STAY AWAY FROM CRAPPY TIRE AND WALMART.........if it's that cheap, theres a reason!!

Find a used trunk is the best way to go. Rust will always come back and haunt you.

true, but buying used you're never going to get a proper colour match, and odds are if its used it's been sitting for years without ever seeing any form of protectant..............right back where u started, if not worse

Not neccessarily, I will be picking up a few panels from a fellow beyonder, and I know they will be in mint condition just from the appearance of his car. If you buy pieces with no rust, get the proofed, all should be good.
