ECON311 = playing with MS Excel (no econ involved)

English 1900!

I wrote my final paper on the Abflug Supra for God's sakes, and I still got a 91% on it!
A friend told me if I wrote it, I would fail for sure, and I figured "why not"?

Do they still have GERM 305?

When I took it, almost half the class got an A; the rest were A- to C-... nothing lower.

CPSC 201 (or maybe it's 203) - intro to computers

Here's the winner boys: Geography of latin america (forget the number). Dr. Callaghan (sp?) uses the same tests every year. There is no final. And the best part is that it is a 300 level course (no pre-reqs) so it doesn't even count as a junior course.

Oh shit I forgot Rocks for Jocks GLGY209

and

GERM305 is now pretty hard, they have changed the course. (if this is the one where you used to just have to translate stuff from German -> English)

See, I think its Reasons like this that some people dont appreciate a University Education. Taking absolutely useless courses to boost your GPA? Sure its easy marks...but whats the point in getting an "education" when your cheating yourself by taking bullshit courses? is there something im not seeing here?:dunno:...

Yes. Most degrees only need about 15-20 core courses.

That leaves 20-25 courses. If you take the gpa boosters, you can boost your marks and have a better gpa at graduation, which will help you get a job.

Easy GPA boosters?!

I got plenty to choose from cause that's all I did for the first two years at UofC!!

GEOG 213
CNST 333
ARKY 325
CPSC 213
ENGL 235

A buddy of mine was taking a 400 level History course this past semester that seems like it would be easy and kinda interesting at the same time...it's a course on pop culture. Said all they did was pretty much watch movies and analyze them. Gotta love post secondary!

Also COMS 201

Only course I took so far that didn't have a final exam was CNST 333. Had a take home final but you gotta make sure you take it this semester cause the dude that teaches it in the first semester is a slave driver apparently.

Friend of mine took it this past semester and he had to something like 3 papers, two commentaries, a midterm, and a final exam. Don't remember what my prof's name was but he was pretty chillin.

200-level RELS courses are easy but I wouldn't say that 300-level ones are easy. They're a lot of work!

ANTH 311 is pretty easy and interesting...nothing to do with technology though.

ECON311 is NOT easy with McRae, not only are his lectures useless, his 3 hour exams are soo complicated that if you make one screwup you're going to do piss poor. Ontop of that, if your choice for background/cell colours in your spreadsheet are not to his liking he massively kills your grade. I know very well, lost 25% on an exam because I did not use enough COLOURS. The next exam, I lost a 20% because I used too many!!@#

i ended up withdrawling from this course, i made a complaint, and now i'm in 311 again but with tracey. i heard mcrae had many complaints against him during that class, so thats they only reason the econ dept. overloaded a course for me, other than that, they never overload courses no matter what.

his exams were out of class time, i had to work that day, so i told him a few weeks in advance i couldnt make it and needed to write it another time, he said: TUFFFFFFFFFF.

WTF?!?!?!

maybe i should take it further and get them to cover the cost of me re-taking the course?

i took most of the gpa boosters in my first year:

scopes for dopes - astronomy 205
rocks for jocks - glgy 209
desktops for dummies - cpsc 203 (so boring..)

other ones that i found a breeze were:

phil 201
econ 201/203
enti 381 is a breeze so far
htst209 (not sure anymore)

.....

if you're interested in East Asian studies, take east319 "East Asians in the Canadian Environment"... breeze course.

I dunno about you guys, but I believe that most employers (those who actually look at gpa), don't just look at your OVERALL gpa. They'll most likely look at your gpa for the revlevent courses that you took that would apply to the skills that might be involved in the job that you're applying for. Employers are not as stupid as you think they are, they don't immediately hire someone who has a 3.5GPA seeing that this person got 2.5gpa on 2 relevent courses and 3 bird courses at 4.0gpa... Unless you plan to be a geologist, an astronomer, or a history teacher, I say concentrate on getting higher marks in the relevent courses that you're planning to major in and screw all these stupid courses that noone will ever care that you've toke!

I agree with you, but most employers also ask like "why did you take these courses?". and I know i can honestly answer: "b/c i have an interest in these subjects"
i loved my East Asian history courses and all of those junior sciences i took were definitely to broaden my scope of knowledge.
i was just talking with a classmate about this and she said that taking courses you enjoy is a "luxury"...
if you can definitely add it to your general span of knowledge, i don't see it as a reason for the employer to not hire you.

but i do agree that it's quite pointless if you aren't really going to apply those courses at all after you get the mark

If you're not in the Haskayne School of Business at the U of C, try FNCE 343 (Personal Financial Management) with Larry Wood. He's a great guy/great prof. The course isn't REALLY easy, but all the exams are open book, and the material (estate planning, personal taxation, investments, and so on) is actually useful to know. Hell, I took the course even though I'm in the Haskayne School of Business and it won't count for credit towards my degree -- it was well worth the money.

:banghead:
Just a warning to all. Marketing (any course, whether it's MKTG 341 or 317) is NOT a GPA booster. The grading of the case studies that comprise of 40% of the midterm and final is excessively subjective, the multiple choice questions are very nit-picky (define something that is covered in two lines on page 600 and so on) and the term/group project is hell. If you're doing a minor in Management and Society, avoid MKTG 341 like the plague. And if you're in the Haskayne School of Business, be forwarned that MKTG 317 is the most dreadful core course you'll have to take (yes, it's MUCH worse than FNCE 317).

ECON321 is The Global Trading System
ECON425 is International Trade

ECON425 looks at a lot more such as the ricardian model, application of game theory into trade, comparative advantage etc.

I took that course 2 years ago with Anne White. She is one of my favorite RELS profs. The course consisted of 1 midterm, 1 final and 1 essay. The tests were basically a straight regurgitation of the text and lecture...nothing too hard. For the essay we had to pick a religion and write about a specific focus on their perspective on death. I did well in that course.

As for a GPA booster it all really depends. If you are interested in that topic you will naturally put more effort into the essay which is one of the main components.

MGIS was good, i had it this past semester. COMS363 no stay clear. SOCI201, everyone got an A in basically, he gave us MC questions before each test, and if you got <80% he made you rewrite it LOL. but i dont think the uni was very happy, cause there is a big X on my infonet for that class, reason "prof didnt submit marks yet..." uh oh

LING 201 is alright, it's alot of reading and if you keep up with the practice questions the course is fairly easy.
GEOG 203 is definetly a joke. GEOG 201, 313,and 361 are all good to boost the GPA.
Any 300 level ARKY course is easy, provided you are interested in the topics covered.
