I go out to my new Focus this morning at 6 am to go to work.We had about 4-6 inches of snow overnight. So I start up the Focus and start sweeping off the snow. Then I go to get in in the car,but the door won't open . So I pull a little , and break off the damn handle . Then I realise the doors have locked !! All my keys are in the car. I can't get into my house and I can't get into the car .I just picked her up on Friday , and had not put the spare keys in my wallet . We had a spare house key hidden outside but my room mate's daughter borrowed it , and she still had it .
After 30 minutes , a neighbor comes out. I borrowed the phone in her house . The truck will be 30-45 minutes . I waited for a hour . Still no truck . It's -10c and still snowing, and I'm getting cold. My feet are frozen . Then my next door neighbor comes out to walk her dog . She let's my warm up and use her phone . She is also kinda cute and single . Eventually after 2 1/2 hours I'm back in the car.

Then I start driving and the low profile tires are brutal in the snow. The traction light is consantly flashing . I got stuck going up a hill twice and had to take another route .

Three hours after starting the car , I got to work . I live 3 miles away .

I did at least get to know my cute neighbor !!

I agree, that and the fact I still cannot fathom how they would allow you to lock your keys in the fuckin car!

Thats pretty shoddy!

Damn I thought most new cars have idiot proof systems that make sure you don't lock your keys inside your car.

I know in my newer corolla and my gf's civic, when you have the key in the ignition, the power locks mechanism do not allow you to lock the doors without using another key to lock the car from the outside.

dude what a shitty day :(

ford has always had problems with cheap door handles =/ I'm super careful with mine, its 13 years old but they're still original. I'd be careful reafing on any cars door handles for that matter though, its just asking for something bad to happen since its all frozen up...

You just need some bigger tires otherwise :)..... last night i was driving home from a movie and it was psycho, i was sliding all over the place, but if it wasnt for my winter tires i'd probably of ended up in a ditch somewhere (love my car :D).

The Focus handles are just like the older VW door handles...since it pulls out, rather than lifts up, you can use your whole body weight on it. I think the late 90's escort had this thing about locking the car when the engine's on too. It's dumb. Grrrr...I guess now you'll have to deal with the crappy Ford service department. The mechanics at the majority of Ford dealerships are reckless bums. I've had a door ding, two long scratches, chaffed wiring - causing a fire, a bumper dent, paint overspray, and three re-do's in two years. Good thing I always look over the vehicle at the dealership before leaving.

I had a 01 Focus and it never locked itself while the engine was running...

The manual makes no reference to it...

I'm sure I'll have fun at the dealer.... :(

apparently you can't put your whole weight tho, his broke. He didn't even say if he put his whole weight into it either. :thumbsdow could be a fluke thing tho too. Hey Fast95Pony have you found any other people who have had similar problems with their focus?

same type of thing happened to me
One time i was, brushing off my car, and it was running, and i try to open the door and (no, the handle didnt break off, cuz i mean, really.) the doors auto locked just as i had my hand on the handle. It was still running so i was running around my house looking for the spare key set, and i had to get to a final for high school, (this was last year) so i was frantic, because, i can't leave my car in the driveway, running till it dies, so i forced open the back window, and used a little lasso rope and pulley thing i made with string and a coathanger and i made it.
Best part is, i got an 93% on my Math 30 final that day.
I miss high school
