View Full Version : Help me choose between these 2 cars

2000 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro
or
2000 Acura Integra type R

So, after months of not having my OWN car, Ive decided that one of these 2 cars are what Id like to own.

Im looking for any thoughts or exp. that anyone has had with either of these cars.

Either car will be a daily driver, with a max of 20-30 kms per day.

I realize that both cars are on the opposite spectrum of cars, im just having a hard time decideing between
luxury
vs
speed

I'd put my vote in for the Type R :burnout:

Quattro. it has too much class for the Type R to compete.

Audi. I love European cars. Also good resale Value.

Depends who you are.... Audi I think I would get bored of.... Type R would be fun to make faster .

my vote is with the type r, rare and really nice car, with high resale value, i have heard really bad storys/experiences of people who had trouble fixing audis and parts being really expensive, i think type r is the way to go!

They are both nice yet different cars. I suggest you drive both and go with your gut instinct not what strangers on a board tell you.

I haven't driven either trims that you have described but I have driven a 1996 Integra GSR and an 1999 A4 1.8 Quattro and between those two I would pick the Audi as the interior is 200% nicer than the Acura and AWD is superior to FWD.

Thats like comparing a 330CI with an ITR, there is no comparison !

One is gutted for lightweight and track capability's and one is very comfortable and twice the car.

Depend's on what you are looking for, you are almost comparing apples to oranges.... I agree with heavyD, drive both and let your instinct decide for you.

Resale value is higher with the Audi, an ITR is a car to " drive " unlike the Audi is a car to get you there without feeling anything.

My vote is A4

I have a friend who drove his R all winter long. I drove my lowered integra to work every day. Calgary winters are NOT BAD!
Go drive both and see what you like. Neither car is Fast but the R will be a lot more fun to drive. I'd pick the type R but that's just my opinion.

audi's are great looking cars exterior and interior, their v6 engine is smooth and has plenty of torque. I heard nothing but horror stories from their owners about bad reliability and having constanly taking them to dealerships for repairs, parts are very expensive.
if i was you i would only buy a brand new audi with warranty

Typer R gets my vote.

Well I think you are looking at the older Audi's, that were plagued with electrical gremlins...if you look at the latest consumer reports, Audi was the only Euro car company with less then the average repairs...I have had both 2.8 and 1.8 and havent had any major problems

I have had to make this identical decision a few years back, went with the A4, and I have never regretted it. I wanted something fun to drive that looks good. I was 23 then, so the whole street racer mentality of the Type R didnt really apeall to me, I wanted something a little quieter, and a lot more refined. If I was younger, I would have gone with the Type R, but at some point I figured the build quality and luxury of the Audi was more important then the added speed of the R. Mind you you could always combine both and get the S4, but my vote goes to the A4!! ( So far the ladies have loved the A4 as well!!)

(I have had the 2.8 30V, and now a 300hp 1.8T, and I dont think I will be driving anything but an Audi for quite a while!
Oh, Make sure you get quattro!!

I think for overall ladies factor and pimpness I would go with the A4. Interior and looks=A+

For reliability and fun, go with the Type R. I have many horror stories about the A4 regarding repair costs and stupid electrical stuff going wrong that I would not touch it unless it was still under warranty. Acura's are much cheaper to repair and are incredibly reliable vehicles.

Audi

- nicer interior
- AWD
- quieter ride
- 2.8L still provides good power

I personally am now a VTEC Junkie...I love it and the B18C5 in the R is one of the coolest motors on the planet...

but having said that...I came from...

and it is something I miss...the AWD is a lot of fun, plus invokes a lot of confidence in adverse condtions...and it's not like the Audi cannot be modded...

so I say Audi...AWD, Sweet Looks, Plush Ride...

audi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the a4 is quite superior to any itr that I have ever seen or driven. But if your looking for a car to mod then go with the itr as audi parts are not cheap!

type r...dunno why...i am a bit biased, however it is cheaper and more versatile with a wide range of aftermarket parts at a reaosnable price. then again the audi is also an awesome ride, but i wouldnt A4 tho. if your on a budget, try the type r

yeah there's no grey area here... I'm not a fan of either brand but bigger engine, better interior, awd - why would anyone pick the ITR? This isn't speed vs luxury, its luxury and speed vs a popular, high revving car that has an inferior drivetrain and engine.

I would take the engine and drivetrain of the Type R over a 1.8T or 2.8 V6 & tranny without blinking an eye so I don't know where you got this "inferior" thing from.

FWD vs AWD, and the 2.8 lays down a lot more linear torque, rather than the ITRs peaky and weak torque curve.

Still not inferior. The 2.8L is an average V6 at best while the B18 in the Type R is one of the best four cylinders ever made.

I've driven the VR6, 1.8T and the B18C5. the Type R was the most fun to drive. That engine is amazing.

I'm not saying its not a good 4, I'm saying comparing the two engines, an average V6 is better than a great I4.

after driving the 2.8 a4 id say the A4 those pull good and look soo slick, audis are nice because you dont feel the road, and i love luxury cars.
