I got a friggin speeding ticket today for going 56 in a playground zone. It was the first time I drove thru the area so I had no idea that I was even in a playground zone (the sign was covered with tree branches). Fawk, I never speed thru playground zones either!! The ticket is for $124...so I'm wondering what I can do about this ticket. I'm about to buy a car and I already have one ticket for 32 over so will this ticket affect my insurance premiums much? Can I fight this ticket and is it worth it to fight this ticket?

C'mon I know we've got some traffic offense specialists here..

if you want any chance of fighting it you should go back and take a picture of the sign to prove that it was covered up as evidence

other than that you won't get off on it, at most you'll get the speed reduced a bit.

Hmm that's a good idea. And if it doesn't work out perfectly, it's nothing a lil choppin won't fix

Go back to the scene with a film camera and take a picture from up the road showing that the sign is covered by the tree. When you go to court, show the judge the pictures of the tree covering the sign. Several pictures from a few different distances would be best. If you have a camera that can date stamp the photos as well is even better. Just adds to the authenticity really.

Or you can fight the ticket, have the charge reduced, all said and done you be around $400

take pictures of the sign and it should work out all good! ... though i was talking to my psych teacher like a month ago and he ran a stop sign same situation... and the judge let him go paying half of the fine / he got no demerits / and it wouldnt affect his insurance... its better than nothing.....

i myself have to fight a ticket for "Stunting" but i think i have a pretty good argument/case so im hoping to either win, or get a reduced fine or really hopefully reduced demerits

Damn! I went and checked again and the sign is only covered from one angle and it's pretty visible otherwise. I guess I'm in the wrong....

I wonder if Pointts could still do something..hmmmmm...

I'd go and fight it at traffic court. Since this is your 2nd ticket, they'll probably let you off with a reduced fine and lesser demerits.

How long have you been driving and how long ago was your last ticket?? If you've been driving a while and it's been a while since your previous ticket, they might even let you get away with an RO (registered owner) in that you pay the fine without any demerits.

Either way, go and fight it. The very worst that could happen is you pay the full fine (which you'd have to do if you didn't fight it anyways). Court dates are usually like atleast 6 months away from when you plead not guilty anyways. With any luck, they'll fuck up along the way and you'll get off scott free! (Happened twice to my friend!)

Hopefully you don't get that bald judge. He likes to yell at traffic offenders :madred: :madred:

I've been driving for 2 years, and my first ticket was a year and a half ago...this is my second ticket.

How exactly do you fight a ticket? Did you just hire Pointts or did you rep yourself? What was your argument? Man I'm new to all this shat.

Thanks

Dunno about Pointts. Never hired them, being the cheap ass I am. I guess you could give them a try if you're hurtin bad enough.

Just go down to the building listed on your ticket and tell them you want to plead not guilty. Then they'll set up a court date for you to appear. When your court date arrives, just explain your story to the prosecutor and ask if there's anything you can do about the demerits (and maybe that you don't care about the fine itself). It's probably a good thing that it's been a year and a half since your last ticket.

Fax your ticket to pointts, 269-6410... damn I have this number memorized now, along with a cover sheet detailing the events leading up to the ticket. They will call you back and let you know what chance you have to fight it. This step is free, so get some advice from them before you make any decisions.

SLA is ass, don't ever use them. Get pointts. It'll cost you a load but probably worst case scenaro you'll have to pay the full ticket as if it were a photo radar ticket, which means no demarits!

But I'm in Calgary now dammit!

Hmm, Pointts still hasn't called back yet. I think that might mean something.

Hmm how long does it take for them to call back? i had a bad experience with points i had 2 tickets and they only could muster to get the minor one dropped but the most important one which of course is speeding they said i had no chance.heres is another option to throw into your list.you can go to see the crown prosecutor,i think they are located right next to the cashiers, ask to see if you can get the speed reduced and no demerits if you just plead guilty to the ticket.now i dont know if this will work for you but it usually works for my drivers at the courier company that i work for.:dunno:

What I'm going to do now is go to court, and try working the ticket down by talking to the prosecutor.
