007 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER
ON SALE: Early 2006
BASE PRICE: $23,000 (est.)
POWERTRAIN: 4.0-liter, 245-hp, 282-lb-ft V6; rwd/4wd, five-speed automatic
CURB WEIGHT: 4000 lbs (est.)

WHAT'S COOL: Toyota can do retro design, too, Mr. Mays. Rides on the 4Runner SUV platform. Production version closely resembles 2003 concept vehicle.
WHAT AUTOMAKER SAYS: "The FJ Cruiser effectively fills a gap in the Toyota lineup which was once our core heritage -- capable, affordable and durable vehicles that are youthful, fun-to-drive, aggressive and tough," says Don Esmond, Toyota Division general manager."

Is this the real production version? Not concept?

Looks like we have another Element on our hands.

BS. the element never has and never will come with lockers. toyota knows how to make great trucks. we'll have to wait to see how this one goes.

Toyota needs to offer a diesel in that and I'll be on it like ugly on an ape.

The dead space between the C and D pillars is kinda strange. Wonder why they dont have a window there.

I dont mind the idea of another SUV as long as its a bit more rugged unlike the Chevy Uplander and the new Pathfinder.

saw it at the car show and though "thats gotta be one of the ugliest things ive seen."

i hate suvs, but i think this one is kinda cool. i'd much prefer to see a wicked bad ass lookin off road capable suv than another uber useless luxo ute.

Uplander is a Van.

New Pathfinder dropped its previous unibody to body on frame a la Armada. It's a better truck than 4Runner.

By the time that you see that on the showroom floor, it will be:

BASE PRICE: $36,000
POWERTRAIN: 4.0-liter, 230-hp, 250-lb-ft V6; rwd/4wd, five-speed automatic
CURB WEIGHT: 4300 lbs
0 TO 60 MPH: 10.5 seconds (est.)

youthful, fun to drive? then why an automatic only? Why style over substance?

If they built a stripped down, true to form cruiser; Turbo-diesel four cylinder, proper 4wd, carpet optional and removable, manual transmission only, four wheel discs and steel wheels. Put a beefy roof rack on the top and I will truly be interested in getting one.

If there is one thing that the world needs less than another SUV, its another pig-in-a-frock jacked up car with terrible fuel consumption but a ton 'o' style....

what are the side mirror lights for? would it actually help during off roading? all i can think of is stupid teenagers turns those lights on and shining it into other cars on the road

I am a big fan of the older fj's and also like this one so call me crazy, but I have been trying to research this thing to find out if it is a unibody or a body on frame, any info.

Are you for real? I immediately liked this concept when I saw it the first time a year or two ago. This thing looks great! It looks like a futuristic toy to me.

Too bad it's an SUV. WTF is Toyota doing? 4.0L, V6, 4000 lbs?
With all the money and time they put into this they could have improved their passenger car lineup. The Corolla, Camry, and Avalon all look like ass --- great quality cars but they're ugly.

I think they might be turn-signals.:)
