Man, I can deal with a harsh clutch but i've had problems with 3 sprung hubs in 3 years! Damn spring retainers wear out so fast. Never again :banghead:

un-sprung hubs are a LOT harsher in AWD applications vs. the 2WD guys...

unsprung is the way to go. i have a clutchmasters stage 4 in my teg, with itr tranny and light flywheel and its fine as a daily driver. honestly i perfer it to my stock clutch/sprung. its like an on off switch, and i have no chatter either. good buy!

Haha you fag! Well unsprug clutch still puts a lot of shock on the transmission regardless if you are just regularly driving or dumping it.

BTW I hope you are lost in the mail!

I couldn't imagine and unsprung one, I've got a sprung 6 puck and it just pisses me off in traffic.

slow slip(with rapidly changing friction) or buck...can't figure which is worse...

spec stage 3, should be good for about the same amount of power, probably a bit more torque... feels great, though because it engages almost instantly you gotta be quick back on the gas

My new clutch CM Fx 600. Makes rush hour driving 3 times worse but after 1st gear its all good takes a bit of getting use to. But will deffinetly work good at the track. never took any pics before it was installed but here it is from clutch masters web site .

My first car was an automatic, but my new one is a standard so im new to a couple things about clutches. Whats the diff. between sprung and unsprung?

Also does the quality of the clutch only allow more torque capacity, or does it give you larger torque gains off the start?

The hub of the clutch in OEM applications has a series of springs that "cushion" the force of the clutch being engaged when you let it out...a sold hub has no such springs and therefor acts like a switch when you let your left leg go...It will make the tranny turn "on and off" whwever its applied or released...

if you look at Corey's first set of pics...the six sided tab looking thing if you don't already know is the clutch disc...and in the center of that on the outside of that splined hub is where the springs are supposed to be...

And the clutch will not "give" you gains...it just allows all that power and torque to be transmitted thru the tranny and onto the ground more efficiently...and in most cases a stronger tranny/gear-set and/or LSD is also required to make the most of the tranny set-up.

Alright, thnx a bunch man. So is it usually a good idea to upgrade to a heavier flywheel when you go up in stages in terms of a clutch?

buh_buh
03-20-2005, 10:13 PM
no, an upgrade would be a lighter flywheel.
Lighter flywheel=less rotational mass=flywheel spins more freely and will rev up quicker.

Nice clutch,

looks to have ceramic pads, hard on flywheels if it is.

Un-sprung is hard on the whole drivetrain and like to chatter. I would know, lol, blew my tranny because of my Stage III puck style similar to yours. Chattered like a mother fucker going into reverse or slow engaging.

I've since upgraded to SPEC's new Stage III Plus, sprung clutch full disc design. Good for 800ftlbs of torque:eek:

your tranny blew because your putting more than double the torque capacity through it. The clutch has nothing to do with it.

Your clutch has a sprung hub. The stg 4 is solid.

i have a clutchnet 6 puck sprung hub. I'm trying to determine if the clutch will go first, or the cast pistons :burnout:

I hate clutchnet. I have used a sprung 6 puck the last 2 years and its dogshit. Worst drivability ever. And it ate my ITR flywheel

Just to bump this with my driving impressions.

It feels good and grab is super strong but the engagement is a little tricky to be smooth. Also, the petal is hard as a mofo to depress, and this is on a hydro tranny! lol
