what is the best digital still camera to use for taking somewhat professional looking pictures??

$1000-1500

We need more information than that, how much to want to spend? Do you want a SLR or a Point and Shoot? What are you planning on shooting (party photos of friends or artistic photos of mountains or wildlife photos)?

I like my Nikon D-70. Granted it's not a tough use camera but it's impressed me with the images it takes.:dunno:
