Despite the look, there isn't much Russian about that. Under the armoured skin, I think its just the Milverado.

That's the nickname given to the the Military - Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (MilCOTS in Military-speak) Chevy Silverado.

It was tested and a few purchased for use by the CF reserves, but was found to be way too delicate for real off-road work after trying to utilise them in Somalia. As much as the Iltis is mocked, it and its 1.7L VW rabbit engine at least held up where new Chevy pick-ups broke down. It was also dropped in favour of the Mercedes G-Wagen for the Iltis replacement. The G-wagen was initially designed for military work and had some integral design protection from landmines. The Chev would have required a 30 cm lift kit (!) and the wheels moved out 30 cm to adapt any kind of effective landmine plating to it.

I would hate to drive to drive that thing off-road with a 12" lift kit and mil-spec tyres... hello rollover...

The reserves still have a pile of them for light duty transportation though.
