If I throw a thermostat into hot water would the spring start to open? :dunno:

if the water is hot enough, and the t-stat is not stock in the open or closed position...

...yes it should.

How hot though? Because my t-stat isn't opening and I have it in just hot running water...

Every thermostat is different. The temperature at which it opens should be embossed onto the thermostat itself somewhere. If you have an OEM one, chances are it has a "range" of temperatures for a 2 or 3 stage opening rather than a single temperature.

Depending on your vehicle it should start to open at around 180F and fully open by 194F.

EK2.0 = how do you get water above 100C? (without superheating pure water)

haha...I dunno...I just realised that myself...I guess he COULD mix in some Antifreeze to his water to simulate cooling system conditions...
