It becomes the first four-wheel-drive in the SRT line, and Jeep claims its zero to 100 km/hr acceleration is quicker than that of Porsche Cayenne Turbo or BMW X5.

Powered by a 6.1-litre Hemi, the 2006 Grand Cherokee SRT8 makes 415 hp (85 hp, or 25 per cent more power than a 2006 5.7-litre Hemi Grand Cherokee) and 410 lb-ft of torque. It reaches zero to 100 km/hr in under five seconds, zero to 160 km/hr in the low 19-second range, and 100 km/hr to zero braking in approximately 38 metres.

Holy Fuck
really, honestly, Chrysler is getting out of hand with their SRT cars. as far as the whole "new horsepower war" goes, they are kicking ass. Chevrolet & Ford really need to up the ante a bit...

Sweet stuff. I've never been an overly huge fan of Jeep styling, but this looks great!

Whats the point of this thing. What a gay vehicle. I didn't know SUV's were now being made into drag cars:thumbsdow .

^ :werd: i hate the cayenne enough, now i can hate this thing too. when people buy a suv or truck they made the choice to get big utility and sacrifice speed. last thing we need is a vehicle thats actually fast for the soccer moms and asshole drivers who'll cruise at 200km/h :guns:

Does the SRT Hemi has the cylinder deactivation?

I can see an Hemi in Viper. I can a Hemi in a Truck. But an Hemi anything else during these high gas prices is just irresponsible.

You're right it's very irresponsible. DC offers no hybrids of any kind to the North American Market, they have been throwing Hemi's into everything they can get their hands on. If they call their low emissions , environmentally friendlly vehicle the smart car, then shouldn't these types of vehicles be called "dumbass car".

D-C has been throwing HEMIs into everything because

a) its a great engine
b) people are buying it

supply and demand baby

And if you really want to know why D-C, Chrysler specifically, isn't heavily invested in hybrid products in North America, read this:
http://www.allpar.com/model/intrepid-esx3.html

they have the tech, no one wants to buy it, and the ones who do will buy it from honda or toyota. everyone else still wants rediculously powerful vehicles - can't say I blame them :D

I know MB is working on fuel cell heavily, and if DC sucks at hybrid then maybe they should look at producing and selling more diesels here in North America. The liberty diesel is sold our already and next years batch will probably be sold out right away as well. They have a diesel Grand Cherokee in Europe as well, why not here?
The hemi sell, of course they sell theyre's barely a price difference between a non hemi ram and v8 ram and the non hemi ram sucks on top of all that. But why don't they design an advance v6 like what you see in the Benz's, Nissans etc.

they have to sell as many cars as possible and right now HEMI is what is moving vehicles off their lots. Hey maybe when that craze is over they'll move on to that, but for now they aren't going to mess with their formula for success.

As for the diesel versions of the Jeeps, my understanding is that even a year or so ago it wasn't possible to run the euro diesel engines over here because our grade of diesel wasn't as good or something like that. Fact of the matter is, you tell the lay person they can either get a Jeep with a euro diesel engine or a HEMI engine and guess which one they are more likely to choose?

although i will agree with most of this, i still like the 1992-1993 typhoon's, back when a fast suv was original :burnout:

I agree, they need to be thinking "hybrid" and "fuel economy" not some silly bloated, gas gussling SUV that fat out of shape 50+ buisnessmen can drive along in by themselves.

No cylinder deactivation on any of the SRT-8's. Suposedly, the aggresive cam profile doesn't work well with the cylinder deactivation.

i am going to have to say nay on this one as well, this is a misuse of available resources. if they are gonna throw 400+hp into a SUV at least make it an off road SUV, rather than a Soccer mom Interstate Cruiser
