alpine cd changer

I recently got a cd changer from a friend that is compatible with Ai--Net head units. My head unit is a CDA-7949 and it works great with the exception that it doesn't play burned cds.

Anyhow.. i took the cd changer from my friend and installed it along with my head unit and strangely I hear all the changers electronic noises through the speakers and when the changer is playing the sound is awful! In fact when I have the head unit's volume set to 0 there is still music coming from the speakers! The volume control does nothing and its all staticy and is acompanied by a lot of electrical noise with it.

What the heck would cause my changer to be able to play but not have volume control and sound like crap?

Well i know some times when u have an amp and the gorund is bad it makes stange noises. It might be a ground or somethin. Im just guessin hear.
