Forget the geeky nature of the property stolen and look at this in terms of monetary value. The killer lent his buddy an online sword. Buddy then went and hocked it for 7200 Chinese Yuan. Currently, 7200 Chinese yuan = about $870 U.S.

People have killed for less, y'know.
