Tough guy gets clocked at 142mph "trying to catch up to someone that threw a bottle at him"

OREGON CITY, Ore. - State trooper Matt Klare's beat is Interstate 205, and he is used to clocking drivers who are cruising along at 10, 15, even 20 miles over the posted 55 mile per hour speed limit.

But 87 miles over the limit? That's another story.

Klare clocked Ryan Allan Champ, 19, of Oregon City, driving 142 mph early Wednesday, the second fastest stop ever record by the Oregon State Police. (The record is 159 mph, set in 1993 on the Astoria Megler Bridge.)

When Klare caught up with Champ and his souped-up 1992 Honda Civic at a stoplight, "He told me he was going 140," Klare said. Klare said Champ was driving without insurance and with a suspended license.

According to Klare, Champ said he was trying to catch up to someone who had thrown a bottle at his car. Champ was arrested on an accusation of reckless driving and taken to Clackamas County Jail. The charge carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and a fine of $6,250, police said.

actually, accelerating past 200 up to 227 is pretty impressive. Most cars would take quite a bit of road to do that. I sure wouldn't trust a 92 civic at those speeds haha.

:werd: that would take a lot of highway for a "souped-up" civic to get to that speed. Shit my car tops out there, hahaha, but I get there fucking quick.

I doubt his car was very stable at that speed. He probably had over 240 km/h indicated.

dude, i dont think you jetta topped over 200. perhaps that is what the speedo said, but its not likely. (unless this is some sort of souped up jetta! haha)

My old golf (1.8L) wouldn't go past 190, but the ol raddo has been up around 225+. Then I got scared

Also had a 2001 Mustang GT up at 210, but it was even scarier than the corrado, being a convertiable and all, she was shaking pretty bad

I just got pulled over going 104MPH while driving in the states about 2 months ago...

No ticket:angel:

I was driving a rented volvo and the whole electrical system went out on it! No interior lights, speedo, radio, NOTHING. It was so weird. So I used the no speedometer to my advantage by picking up the pace:D

When the cop pulled me over he made me get out of the vehicle and walk behind it before he would come talk to me. I thought I was going to get arrested...

it had MADD speed holes, and it was sluggishly passing 200 on the speedo, could have been incorrect.

not saying that speed is SAFE by any means in a civic, but i wouldn't call it really hard.

hell, i've been in an omni when it was going close to 240 and still climbing(hurray for boost    )

pretty damn fast...soo all this over someone throwing a bottle at his car?

haha how many of you would chase someone down for that...and the question comes in how fast was the guy that threw the bottle going?

I had my old 91 Swift GT over 200 before, years ago. But it shook like I was re-entering the earths atmosphere. :nut:

The current ride is a lot smoother at speed for sure. :) Not that I go fast anymore.
