It's more of a deterrant. They will see your car as being less easy to steal and hopefully move on to something else.

If someone really wants your rims, even welded lugs wont stop them.

Exactly. It's the same as having a car alarm. Theives can still steal your car when you have an alarm but usually will pass and look for a car without one.

It is an annoyance. Nothing will make your car theftproof, but there are some steps you can take to minimize the chances.

Wheel locks will force a thief to take much longer and make far more noise than one without it. Even tire shops cannot remove a wheel lock without specialty tools and loud compressors that make the chances of being caught much higher.

that is a good one, they might miss the other sets and not get the right keys.. which means they can only steal one or two rims. there have been more and more people lately that just use a small circular saw and cut the lugs off the wheels behind the wheel, before the brakes, which leaves you without a wheel & studs (which doubles the bill for repairs).

didn't you see the porsche someone posted that had the rims stolen off it like that? it was a set of HREs ($6000ish) and they cut the lugs right off.

circular saws are loud, air or electric, it would be stupid not to look outside if you hear it at 2am
