View Full Version : engine cleaning
what are the parts to cover, i know about covering the filter but is there anything else that i should cover or spots where i shouldent use a pressure washer. Also what kind of engine cleaner works the best, i heard that wd40 works pretty good but is there something that works great and is easy to use.

Cover any open filter elements (breathers/air filters), and distributor if so equipped....Everything else should be fine uncovered.

Go to Canadian Tire and buy some of the GUNK engine degreaser spray cans, get a few if your engine is really dirty. Spray all over the engine and let it sit for a while (have a snack or something while waiting) and just use a pressure washer to hose it all off. If your a little paranoid you can cover the air filter if you have a cone one and the distributor unless its a DIS. The alternator should be fine, so dont have to cover it up.

As for what cleaner to use, just use any engine shampoo from an auto parts store. If your engine/engine bay is extremely dirty, you might want try some concentrated stuff.
like celica said, GUNK works the best i have found. follow his directions.
alright sounds good, hopefully i can get it done this weekend
found some stuff at canadian tire that did a pretty good job didnt get all the dirt off but close enough
