Consider the Audi A4 1.8T, but it will be slightly over your budget after taxes.

This website is a good place to get quick retail prices (http://www.canadianautoreview.com/priceguide.htm) of Canadian cars. (Don't mind the Chinese!) :D

Must it be a new car? How about a '99 BMW E46 328i or 323i? FiveFresh is on the ball too, with either body style of A4 1.8T.

With everything considered I think the WRX would be your best bet

how bout the nissan altima or maxima?
but if u do not mind used cars, 35k can get you pretty much any car. just depends on condition and milage or years.

Maxima: The boat of the future

From my experience with driving 2 maxima's I find while they have lots of power, their handling is quite poor.

I'd get the m3 or the Lexus IS300

It was only a suggestion based on his needs.

If he was needing a sports sedan than i would say IS300 for sure.
I personally would rather have the RWD.

Sorry I didn't mean to discredit you, but those cars aren't very responsive.

How about the G35, in either coupe or sedan? Base on them is just under $40k, and nicely optioned could be had for less than %50k out the door.

Dude, GET AN OLDER M3... (1995-9)
It's the best thing you can get for the money.
And imagine rollin' in a BMW while all the other chumps have S40/Accord/Saab 9-3.

And they have 4dr models if you are really looking for them.
