The seller has been watching to much Barret Jackson. I do think the price of MR2s has pretty well bottomed out now. I think you will find over time that they will start going up again.

I remember back in the eary 80s walking up Mcleod trail one day and I saw 3 different Vettes from the 63 - 67 era in very good shape with $5,000 price tags. One was a split back. Look what those bad boys go for these days.

Bottomed out ?

A nice '93 Turbo with reasonably low kilometres sells for $20,000 in Canada. If you ask me, that is HUGE money for a 12 year old car that was only $30,000 brand new.

In '97 I could have bought a mint 91 Turbo for $14,000 at a dealership. That car in similar condition, but with 80,000kms more would probably sell for at least that much today. And that's not all inflation :)

A friend of a friend in Winnipeg recently purchased a 300ZX TT Roadster with 5500 miles on it.

He had it at the World of Wheels this year and was offered enough to sell it a couple days after the show.

They never made TT convertibles unless it was true JDM

I'm not sure I've ever seen a USDM 300ZX convertible... much less a TT

Id buy a USDM convertible one if I could find a nice one for a reasonable price.

There's one here ;) White one. Seen it rolling around the NW a few times. Not sure if it's one of the California converted ones or what though.

A true Canadian 93 is a very rare car. MR2s fetch a pretty sizable premium up here compared to the US. That is both because of their rarety up here and the number of performance cars they get in the US that are are either not imported or flat out illegal up here. If the MRS had been available in Canada I don't think second gens would go for the price they do here.

But are there really any cars in the same market as a used MR2 ... or even one when it was new that weren't admissible to Canada ?

MRS, EVO8, Elise for starters. If I chew on it for a bit I will think of others.

None of those cars, besides possibly the third gen MR2 can be had for even close to $20,000 CDN. Even it is hard to place in the same class as an MR2 turbo. Albeit an excellent car, it's a different type of car.

I don't think you can compare the price of this extremely low miliage car to that of an Elise, just due to collectability. That is, unless you can afford to buy an Elise, and have it sit for 12 years only managing to collect 4000 miles. We could compare them then !

This also doesn't explain the prices MKI's sell for. I tentatively have my Supercharged MR2 sold for $7000 Canadian. More money than people have bought nice second gen turbos for in the US.

I agree, 50 thousand US dollars for that car is a lot, but in its condition you've gone from a car that is fairly rare in Canada, to one of the only ones in that shape all over the world.

Oh haha, I was all excited about this thread because I thought it might have had some info on getting a new Toyota cheaper or something LOL... looking for a 4Runner though... MR2, as nice as they are, just won't work for me.
