Coworker's 97 V6 mazda 626 spun a bearing I think. Dealership wants 8800 with labour to get him a new one. Anyone know what engine this is and where he could get it installed for cheaper.
holy fuck 8800!! , and the 626 is the same engine as the 93-97 Mx-6/probe, its the klde 2.5 V6, and it he can't find that engine here in calgary his best bet would be to go through JDM source or speed tech and swap in the KLZE (J-spec Version) will give him an extra 30 HP stock as well......the engine can be bought for just over a grand as well
it would also have to be a 5spd in order for you to swap in the J-spec version

Thanks for the info. So KLDE is the US version and KLZE is the JDM? How tough are these to put in? Would anyone on this board (including sponsors) be able to do it?
Yep you got it, and they are direct bolt in.....from the Mx-6/626 in Japan (compare it too swapping a B16A2 into a 92+civic in terms of how easy it is), and im pretty sure speed tech will do the swap and custom auto has the klze but not sure if they will do the swap for a 626 you'd have to ask them

Actually lots of KLZEs came from automatics, plus the engine will mate to either the 5 spd or the auto available in the 626, so it doesn't really matter, unless your friend is looking to convert from the auto.
Used KLDE V6s should run $500-$1000 depending on milage, theres lots available, good luck in the hunting.
