15k - 27k, what's the best sports compact?

Need your help here.... im thinkin of getting my car soon. my budget is around 15k - 27k. I really wanna get a manual shift with >160hp car. both new and used are fine, thinkin of mod my car in the future tho....i've checked srt4, rsx type-s, vw GTI 1.8t, mazda sport3, sentra se-r spec-v, 1995 240sx, 300zx tt, civic SiR.....
so hard to balance performance and apperance....any ideas? suggestions?

SRT-4 and Cobalt are out, he clearly said looks are important too, but i would get an SRT-4 if you want cheap speed, compared everything else is too pricey (new anyway)

have you thought about maintence? buying an older car such as the 300TT might come with unseen problems.
imo i would buy a new car or fairly new car. on your list i would get a used srt-4 or a used rex (wrx).
if i were to buy new it would be a ralliart, civic sir, or impreza rs
