Will human beings become obsolete when AI reaches a point where it can improve itself better then any human could?

The term for this is Technological singularity and the implications are pretty scary.

I know this topic has been covered in various movies, but this is the first time I've ever seen anyone take a professional look at the matter.

if you want to know the future of AI, read the Dune series by Frank Herbert. i could see that shit happening....
