View Full Version : Calgary's First Auto -> 5 Speed (2000 Honda Prelude)

1-Bar
04-24-2005, 07:39 PM
Congrats go out to cocoabrova and maxboost_r for accomplishing the first auto to 5 speed manual conversion on a 2000 Honda Prelude in Calgary.

The swap took a painful 7 days, lots of blood sweat and tears, not to mention my bank account took a nice dive. But in the end, it was all worth it.

Special thanks to:
Greg (getting all the honda parts I needed)
Shoaib (major pieces ie. tranny, intermediate shaft)
Aldrich (wiring)
Allan (some grunt work)
Richard (much needed base map)

Pics going to be uploaded later tonight.

mmmm....Honda LSD....

Heheh. Welcome to my world. :) It should tide you over until you can make it to the dyno. Hopefully that's soon!

How's it feel to be driving a 5-speed now? You have to take me for a ride sometime!

that part would have been worse if we didn't have a reference. Good thing me and CivicDXR put in the 4 gauge power wire for my stereo around the master cylinder/clutch pedal area. Made a really good template out of paper, then stuck onto cardboard. Lined up the pedal, took it off...stuck the template on the firewall and drilled the holes.

maxboost_r did a wicked job cutting out the holes. It was nearly a stock cut, the master fit perfectally!!

The worse part was running the clutch hard line in behind the motor and all the way to the slave. But I think the clutch was the most iffy part.

OK people, here are the pics... this was in no way or form a "how-to" pic session, we were just taking pics whenever we felt like it, so we really don't have any technical pics, so don't ask :poosie:

here we go (pics have been resized to be internet friendly):

1-Bar's car being raped:

Auto tranny out:

Manual flywheel all bolted up and cleaned:

"Yo guys, check out what I got underneath the hood. Its the new JDM "Filipino Dude" LSD tranny."

The start of the holes for the clutch master cylinder, kinda looks like an evil happy face:

MaxBoost_R setting up the clutch pedal assembly:

After a week of sitting in Cocoabrovas garage (mostly waiting for parts), on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at 11:50pm, 1-bar's Prelude disappeared:
http://members.shaw.ca/aldrichevangelista/DSC00797.jpg

Spy night photos show that it made it outside on its very own JDM LSD manual tranny, and the ghost driver appears to be vanishing:

M2B4 only came in JDM fourth gens. Only the M2B4 and M2Z4 have LSD! :D

*edit* The accord trannies with LSD that will also work on the H22 are the T2W4 (Accord Euro-R) and U2Q7 (Accord Type-R).

I been wanting a 5 speed swap for a long time now.....I probably wouldn't do it if it was a non-LSD tranny....

As for which one I used, EK 2.0 pretty much summed it up....any prelude tranny no matter what gen. and some select accords can match up to the h-series motor....

1-Bar

well, we'll just say labour prolly cost $1500 and parts would be another $1000-2000 depending on what you get new/used for your average person.....

not no where near what I paid.....:D

1-Bar
04-28-2005, 09:45 PM
some specs on the tranny:

M2B4 - 3.307 - 1.950 - 1.360 - 1.071 - 0.787 - 4.266 LSD

*same as the 4th gen lude tranny (M2A4) but with LSD :D

so why is your idle messed up and why are you running a basemap.

Wasnt the manual ecu able to be swapped in?

Because Chris opted to run a P28 chipped with Uberdata ECU...vs. an OEM H22 Manual Transmission ECU...so the chip was blank and an H22 Basemap burned onto it...The idle will be funny, because it was burnt for someone else's set-up...and until Chris can hit the dyno to get it tuned for his application there will be some hiccups...

yes but then everything is static...no fuel maps can be adjusted...this way he can fine tune and extract more power from N/A mods or when he does go turbo...its a standalone...

standalone will work fine as long as you have the right basemap.

Finding an OBDII Prelude manual ECU is hard....expensive through the dealership. And if I got it used, I would need a new red key to reprogram the immobilizer for the new ecu, or a new immobilizer, new locks for the doors and trunk.....all in the name of stock. No thanks.....
