View Full Version : How to get torque?

I was planning on swapping a B16A1 or B16A2 into my '91 Integra Sedan but I see it has low torque (about 112lbs-ft@7000rpm).
I was wondering how would I be able to get higher torque, maybe about 130 maybe more?

Install either a FI solution (turbo, supercharger) or nitrous. Even so you probably won't see 130 lbs-ft more, not reliably anyways unless you built up the motor as well. Easier solution, buy something with a V8.

Oh so its not possible to get the 112 torque to about 130 torque without the help of nitrous or turbo?

Would a B18B swap be better then a B16A?

Sorry I read your post wrong :nut: I thought you meant you were aiming for 130+ torque over and above your 112 lbs-ft LOL. Actually you can probably get close with bolt ons and ecu upgrades. Since the engine's NA it might be a bit tougher than it would be with a boosted motor. The Honda guys on here can probably give you more specific suggestions.

18ft/lb of torque is easy to get. I/H/E, and a custom tune will pretty much guarantee that.

I can probably make at least 10ft/lb more torque over the entire rpm range by just tuning and not adding I/H/E at all.

and yes the B18 has more torque than a B16, larger displacement.

you want lower end torque?
don't even think about putting in intake or straight through muffler.

Bump up to premium and adjust the ignition timing. Increase compression ratio (shave head is the cheapest way). I think you can also remove the middle layer of the head gasket for a couple tenths of a point. Intake and exhaust manifold would help where you get it, but good luck finding aftermarket that supports low end power :D

If there's an EASY way to get 20+ pounds of extra torque out of a sub 2 liter Honda motor, I think there's about 10,000,000 people that would like to know what it is ;)

hehe

testingcheck if you are really serious about making more torque with one of the cheaper B series motors (ie not c1 or c5) I would think about FI. The gains are incredible compared to any NA mods, for the $ involved. There are quite a few members here running in the 6-9 pound boost range reliably on stock internals.

Well my choice is either a B16A or a B18B but I am debating. With FI, doesnt your vehicle need much much more attention then a N/A vehicle?
