View Full Version : Anybody ever purchase gear online?

I was just curious if anybody has purchased gear online? I did some price shopping for a helmet and gloves and found that it was MUCH cheaper to buy online than to go locally. Even after possible duties and taxes, I'll still be saving a fair amount.

With that said... what should I expect to pay for duties and taxes? The cost of the gear I'm looking at is roughly $650CDN shipped.

Any info would be great. Thanks!

Ummm... From what i remember, do not have them use UPS to ship your gear. They have all sorts of charges that will likely make it cheaper to buy locally. Make sure they ship USPS or something else.

^ Word. I got all my gear online last summer, UPS sticks you with a crapload of handling charges. They're apparently pretty cheap if you keep it in the US, but once you cross the border it's a punch to the wallet.

So if they ship by USPS Airmail (which they do)... that's a good thing then?

Yes, but make sure it's reputable company because u don't get a tracking number with USPS airmail.

with the concern of U.P.S. if you ask the shipper nicely and/or tell him/her its a gift the can put that on the invoice and wave off a few dollars (custom fees and duties tax) and then again the retail value of the item is a factor! just hope customs dont seize the item cuz their gay like that!
