Hey guys,

A buddy of mine had a birthday party last thursday down at bowness park. This kid showed up to the party and upon seeing him, the birthday boy decides to jump on his car and walk right across it. I have no idea why (maybe he was excited to see him, he was an invited guest??), but anyways.

At the time, nothing was noted to be wrong, however, later this kid brought his car back to his dad, he absolutely freaked and wanted my friend who did it to pay for it. Now, these dents, are reletively large, about the size of a foot, and probably about a few mm deep in concavity. This kids dad got a quote on the cost on getting three of these dents fixed and it said that it would cost him $7800! Absolutely absurd I thought.

When I asked my friend what he was thinking, and he responded in saying that he has done it to allot of cars and nothing has happened to them before. :nut: and proceded in blaming it on the fact that it was a shitty car.

The car is a 1988 Chrysler New Yorker, only 20k (owned my the kids grandma) and supposedly has some antique value according to the kids dad. Go figure, but anyways, Do you guys know of a procedure of getting out dents like this, a possible price, or a place that coud do this?

Also, any idea on the price on a 1988 Chrysler New Yorker with 20k? lol

I feel bad for him and wanted to see if there was anything I could do to help him out.

Ask him to take it to DNT, the paintless dent repair shop. It shouldn't be more than 300-500 to repair.

You're right, he is an idiot, but $7800 is just as retarded. I don't think the car would be worth that. Is it just the hood or what? A replacement hood and paint should still run under a grand. If you can get away with paintless dent removal, the bill should be a few hundred. I'd ask to see this quote for $7800.

it's a wright off now, lol. is the dents on the hood, cause if it is, it'll be way cheaper to find a hood install it, and then just get it painted to match.(88 new yorker, should be a dime a dozen at the auto reckers)

Thats the stupidest thing I've heard all week.

I think he meant $78....lol

I want some of what Dad was smokin'!!

Even if your buddy jumped on the hood, bellyflopped the roof in, and kicked out all the windows it still wouldn't be $7800.

Ok heres what you do in steps:
1. Tell Dad to give you the car.
2. Take out the gauge cluster (4 mileage)
3. Go to junk yard get a new gauge cluster
4. Put it into the car
5. Sell the car
6. Buy another one identical to that one.
7. Put gauge cluster from the first car in
8. Give the car back to Dad

LOL:thumbsup:

How can it have antique value? It's an 88 not a 38.Unless you meant sentimental value..

the dad is just trying to take your pal for a ride. the fact that the car isn't even worth that much.....also wtf is insurance for? on top of that how can he say there's some antique value for a 1988 chrysler new yorker? that shits all over the place at the wreckers...tell the dad to take it to DNT and then after it's all done, give him the big FU!!!!!!!

So that could be what the dad remember his mom by. So it's worth more to him than just monetary value. Stepping on this car is like stepping on his mom's grave, so I can sympathzie with his feelings.

But if it means so much, I won't let my son or anyone touch it.

i don't think it really matters if its on the roof, or hood.....it wouldn't cost anywhere NEAR 8000 to fix a dent on a roof ......hell even if u cut out the dented portion of the roof and soder in a new peice of metal, and repaint the whole fuckin car it STILL wouldn't be 8000

Well, thanks for all the imput guys, I appreciate it from everyone.

Yes, there is one dent on the hood, one on the roof, one on the trunk. But now the dads being an ass, and is talking about going to court and won't even take it to DNT. I found this all very surprising as he is not short of money at all, and is continually buying new cars.

My guess is that he doesn't expect my friend to pay $7800, and that he would just sell the car to him for that price. This whole situation is shocking to me, as it seems like such a dirty thing to do.

Apparently the dad says it was a "show car". First off, 88 New Yorks are not show cars, secondly, if it was so special why would he let his son drive it.

Also, I am friends with the dads son, and his grandmother is still alive, so I don't know about it being something to remember her by.
