So I'm picking up an Audi S4 that was made in the year 2000 with less then 34,500km on Tuesday. Naturally I'm having it inspected even though the dude whois selling, I have known for a while. Anything in particular I should look for mechanically with a car manufactured in the above noted year?

Wordy paragraph huh?! Still with me?! :)

I'm looking for faults. Fill me in on the cons. Thanks.

Typically people try to stay away from 00's,but this one sounds quite good! The major thing to look at is the turbo's....and maybe check service records. The TB likely hasnt been done with such low km, but the age of the car may require it being done. Its expensive, so watch out for that.

For better and more accurate advice, search Audiworld...they know better then I do! If you get it before saturday, come to the meet!!

HMMMM.... I would... if I could get the dude in-town before then. I'll try to pull it off tomorrow.

And the problem with it being a year 2000 would be?:dunno:

^^Probably that it is the first year of that gen of S4's.(I believe) Always a good idea to buy a 2nd yr car of a model, but some examples like this one could be fine.

There were engine changes made in either 01 or 01.5

I'm not an Audi expert by any means but doesn't Audi provide a free 10 year extended powertrain warranty on 1.8T engines due to the oil sludge problem due to Audi recommending too long of oil change intervals as well they now use a larger oil filter on these engines.

My brother has a 1999 A4 1.8T Quattro and he got the letter.

I saw someone talk obout the turbo and the 1.8T is the first engine to come to mind. My bad, it must be the 2.7L TT V6.

I'll sell you mine for cheap or I'll trade you for that GTI :dunno: ... Thats pretty low Kms for a 2000, whats the asking price? Theres a couple in the autotrader right now that are decently priced.

I've had hardly any problems with mine, except for the stock front brakes are prone to warpage and the stock diverter valves tore. These were both easy to fix. Couple other minor problems here and there, but nothing huge.

2001+ S4's have these additions to the 2000: The 2001.5 (built after 08/2000) have upgraded turbos, new badges, no F-hoses (tear easy) and revised TBB clamps, vaccuum and oil lines were modified, ESP, aluminum mirrors... there's probably other slight changes I'm missing.

Heres a few good websites that you may want to check out:

PM me details about you're car. It's unlikely that'll I'll trade or purchase you're S4... but you never know. :)

When you mention upgraded turbos -- do you mean from the KKK K03 to KKK K03sport turbos? Is there a noticeable performance increase?

The Turbo's did not change during the life of the S4, only the Oil feed lines going into them
