The VW badges have gotten obnoxiously large recently. As for the rest of the car, it looks good.

wow, what a freaking long write-up

i think its a pretty hot car. different style from the old passat but still nice. anyways, i like it. The interior, as always, is pretty well set up and looks good.

It's too Corolla-ish.

But interior is good typeical Audi/VW although a bit busy.

C-pillar is a direct rip off of current gen BMW 3. Not very original at all.

I bet it would actually be decent in the performance category once they put the 3.2 VR6 into it (or the 3.6 which i hear is for North America)

To each his own! I've always hated the current Passat body style - it looked like an overpriced Jetta.

I like the interior alot looks realy nice, the outside is another story. It looks like they crossed a BMW door design with a VW body

Never been a fan of VW exteriors - that hasn't changed :dunno:

LOL, learn to read buddy, that was the base base base model 1.6L enginel found in europe.

The 200hp 2.0L FSI Turbo is 7.7 seconds, the 280hp VR6 will be a lot faster.

Where did you learn to read?!?!

Their are 8 engine choices for the new Passat in Europe with the fastest being:

"a 2.0 T-FSI delivering 147kW: Volkswagen has chosen the turbo-charged 2.0 FSI as featured in the Golf GTI to be the most powerful four-cylinder in the Passat. The 147kW / 200hp FSI catapults the Passat to 100km/h in just 7.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 237km/h.

and a TDI

"2.0 TDI delivering 125kW: The second 2.0 TDI with a highly innovative Piezo high-pressure unit injector system and a balancer shaft is an all-new development. The very quiet four-valve TDI delivers 125kW / 170hp, develops 350 Newton-metres of torque and accelerates the saloon to 100km/h in just 8.6 seconds. The top speed is 223 km/h. The average consumption is also just 6.1 litres for every 100 kilometres."

both of these times are respectable for a family sedan.

I think its a very sharp looking car. Tailights are something to be desired but its a defenite improvement over the current model. Its more upscale look should justify the bigger price tag over the current generation.

that's great, I was just saying that the base model, which most people will get, is slow. Besides 0-100 km/h in 7.7 isn't exactly catapaulting in my books

But thats with the 2.0 4 cylinder Turbo... they also have the VR6 that will probably propel the Passat 0-100 km/h in under 7 seconds. Also I believe for the North American market, the base Passat will come with the 2.0 4 cylinder turbo (correct me if im wrong here, because the previous Passat had the 1.8T for the base) and not the 102 hp 4 cylinder.

That economy engine will not get anywhere near North America.

^ The base model usually isn't the most popular throughout Europe. The mid-level diesels seem to be the mass-market choices in a lot of places at least. Their 0-60 times don't tell the full story of their performance. Once off the line turbo diesels have pretty decent performance.

Just wait until fuel starts approaching $2.20 per litre, which it is in the UK right now. All of a sudden economy over performance starts looking like a better real-world option.

Incidentally - hopefully this is one of those cars that looks much better in person than in photos. The front 1/4 is OK if very very Audi-like, but the rear is rather ill-proportioned....
