View Full Version : IPOD earphones SUCK!

Weapon_R

I just received my IPOD yesterday. The overall packaging, construction, and product work very, very well. I can see why this thing is so popular.

The earphones completely blow however! I've played less than 50 songs on it and they sound distorted and fuzzy. Complete crap for the price you pay! I bought some black Jensen's from Walmart today for $4.00 that BLOW these earphones away.

Any recommendations for a better upgrade? Preferably in white, and under $40:thumbsdow

Seinheissers are good. i don't find that they hurt too much to be a factor choosing them. i find all ear phones that fit into your ear hurt the same sooner or later.

Which headphones are good that come with the product these days anyway? None.

i think ipods suck in general. You can't even delete songs except in Itunes.. and if you format your HD you can't even copy the songs back. It's fuckin pathetic. I sold mine awhile ago and got a creative.

Yeah, can't believe the craze over ipod.

Technically, it's almost the worse MP3 player you can find. Crappy sound, lousy copy protection and bad software, replacing battery is a pain in the ass.

Everyone is fronting like they are with it unbeknowing that they are just sheeps like everyone else.

Model # guys - I can't go searching for a set without knowing more than the manufacturer. Each has at least a few sets out on the market today.

Also, i'd prefer earphones over headphones. Headphones are too bulky to take around in your pocket.

I had the problem of Ipod earphones hurting my ears, not fitting well, sound was ok....Anyhow, I went hardcore and bought Etymotic Research ER-6i's

info:
http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.asp
http://www.widget.co.uk/asp/product.asp?recorprod=1&product=529&cat=111&ph=&keywords=&recor=&SearchFor=&PT_ID=

Sure, they're expensive (I paid $190 off Ebay for mine), but they truly kick ass in terms of sound reproduction, bass, and noise isolation...Etymotic is a huge sound research lab, and they also make hearing aids, so you know they know their shit when it comes to sound reproduction....I just got back from Europe last week, and wore these on the plane, I could hardly hear the rumble, or the dinging for the seat belt alerts....They're comfortable to wear, small, lightweight, come with neoprene packaging, replacement filters, and foam style ear pieces in addition to the silicone ones.....

NOTE: for a slightly cheaper alternative, look for the Etymotic ER-6's instead of the 6i's, they aren't as nice, and they are black, but they are cheaper, you may not even notice a difference in the sound quality (depends on the quality of your MP3's or AAC's)

the sonys are awesome but thye are pricey, the panasonic ones are decent for the price you pay.

Don't get Panasonic, they suck, I tried some....Never tried the Fontopia ones, cause I didn't want to blow $$70 on earphones that might suck.....Etymotics were a no brainer for me, my dad has the ER-6's, so I could test drive them.....The big thing to remember is the Ipod earphones are High fidelity ear phones, so if you want good sound, you need to buy HiFi earphones......Ipod also makes "in ear" style earbuds for about $65, supposed to be good aswell.....

I would love to splurge on some Etymonics or Shures but they're just way too expensive and I only listen to mp3s anyways so I doubt that I could even take full advantage of them. TurboMedic can you back this up? I'm sure if your music is coming from a high quality source, the sound is much improved. But if you're listening to a 192 kbps mp3 off Soulseek on your iPod, does it make much of a difference?

The white earphones are slick and I heard that PSPs come with them too now... So if someone has white earphones, you can tell that they have money to burn.

I don't get the hate towards the Ipod either. It's $80 cheaper than the Creative, looks WAYYY better, functions just as well IMO, and is better built (aluminum vs. plastic). It's not as bulky either.

IF you want awsome sound go to the sony store and ask for the head phones that seal in your ear.. they run you ither 50-80 bucks depending on what you want.. it pretty steep pricing for headphones but its the best sounding ear bud for the price.

I agree with you that PSP earphones are good. However your wrong that they don't fit. I jacked my friends psp headphones to check out sound quality for my ipod, and it fit perfectly fine.
It's just a generic headphone port.

Doesn't EK2.0 work at the Sony store? Don't waste your time on any other earphones and get the Sony Fontopia ear bud earphones and pay the $60 or whatever they are. They are worth every penny you spend on them. I've been using them for over 2 years and all other ones sound like crap when you get used to them.

If you bought an expensive receiver would you buy cheap speakers for it? $60-70 isn't cheap but it is worth it in the long run.

BTW: I didn't find the OE headphones that bad, maybe you got a bad set.

The OEMs not horrible, but they do distort when you set the EQ and increase the volume. I wouldn't expect an expensive item like this to come with such crappy earphones! Anyways, once I find out how much the fontopias go for locally, I can make a choice then.

The distortion is only due to the headphones, they work fine for the first time at full blast but they then blow and start to distort at high volumes. If you put in a set of the Fontopia headphones and go full blast, no distortion

Yeah all of mp3s are of decent quality as well but I was trying to get my point across. I can't say that I'm an audiophile so getting high-end earphones probably won't do me much good. But the isolation sounds like a great feature though. I remember listening to my iPod on the bus with the noisy passengers and engine, then getting off and realizing how damn loud I had the music turned up.

A great set of bud phones is made by Koss. They have SOFT foam rubber tips that fit DEEP into the ear canal - offering great external nosie cancellation and good coupling to the eardrum - which makes for great bass. They are availble at Radio Shack for about $35...

Well, I agree that the iPod headphones are awful. They sound like canned shit.

I just purchased an iPod classic 160GB. I'm not even that fond of the thing, but it's the only music player with a huge storage capacity like that.

You can use a myriad of programs to manage these things now. You don't have to use iTunes, unless you have a Touch and you want to download games and shit for them. Otherwise, if you use it as a Music player, you can use WinAMP or Songbird, and both of those allow you to copy music to AND from the device.

Of course, if you use iTunes and downloaded iTunes Store music, you're sort of stuck because of the DRM. But at long as you stick to unencrypted music like MP3's you're all set.

So, I'll get a decent set of headphones for this thing and it'll be fine. I got a little cradle for it for my truck but the sound quality from it sucks ass - my Pathfinder has a 1/8" jack for audio sources and when I plug in directly to the iPod it sounds good, but if I go through this cradle it turns into mush.
