I'm making a shutter release remote for my camera and it uses a stereo jack to connect to it. Thing is, I have no idea what parts (numeric) lead to connect to where on the jack (alphabetic):

Anyone have any idea what parts (1, 2, and 3) connect to sleeve (a), ring (b), tip (c)?

The stupid Radio Shack package doesn't have any descriptions!

1-a
b-3
c-2

that would make the most sense, but if you are in doubt then just get a continuity tester and that will tell you for sure.

That's what my initial assumption too. Don't have a tester on hand unfortunately.

Sounds right to me. Looks like 1 (a) is the ground (common)and 2 & 3 would be L & R. 2 appears to be sleeved inside of 3 and terminating at point C. If in doubt, grab a battery, a couple pieces of scrap wire and use a low power device to confirm it.

Make that 3 votes for

1: A
2: C
3: B

I'm sure you can rig up some sort of circuit tester.

yeah if you have a battery and a light and a few wires you can make your own circuit tester.

I had the EXACT same problem with the package I bought from Radio Shack...
I cant remember how I wired it up though. It took me two attempts to get it right though.

Run a multi meter thru them, 2 pointsthat has 0 ohm would be the connecting points.

I know this is an old thread, but you could have built a quick test light out of a flashlight bulb, battery and 2 wires.

better yet, these days everyone should have a cheap multimeter, you can buy them for as low as $15
