Wifey and I can decide on an area to live in.

Any suggestions?

I'm looking for something under $250k. Starter-home. Not in the Ghetto/projects. Leaning towards deeper South or NW. I hear there may be a huge Mall being built down South which would make the south more appealing to us.

McKenzie Towne sounds like a good fit for you Ed. Check it out sometime (if you haven't yet) Deerfoot South all the way down to Mckenzie Towne BLVD.

If I move, there are only 3 communities I want to live in, Riverbend, Mckenzie Towne, or (not really a community but) anywhere close to downtown along 16th AVE/10ST/Edmonton Trail.

There is a lot of new areas being built in the deeper SW with reasonalbly priced homes that I see everyday on my way home ( I live way out in Springbank) . You might want to take a look at that area as they are building a new co-op/mall there right now and expanding all the communities with new phases. They are right off bow trail and only about a 15 min drive to downtown (when theres no rush hour traffic).
