They are going to be commercially released in about a year or so. They will replace most passenger tires all together because they are apparently more environmentally friendly and improve gas mileage in cars by giving constant proper pressure. They have proven better traction than traditional tires. Only issue with them apparently is that they make a load of sound while driving.

I used to work for michelin but they never had any of those around when I was there.... It is interesting as hell to see a tire from raw material's to finished product (with a shit load of steps, which is even more amazing as the tires been basically the same since liek what 100years?, mind you theres a shit load of technology in them nowadays)...If you ever get a chance to take a tour, do it...No plants in this end of the country though...

These tires are hugely better than 'regular' tires when racing. Regular tires are much harder to setup properly (if you've ever played a sim racing game for PC or worked with a race team, you know how hard it can be) but these are much much easier to change and I think they can be fine-tuned to get a much better setup. I read something about these tires' application in racing, I wish I could remember more.

The only drawback of these tires is the road noise, you're completely right. These tires are VERY loud apparently. Fine for racing or track use but not for street driving (yet)

they just have them looking like that for demonstration purposes, when u buy them they will come with a side wall and look like a regular tire, also these new tweels are supposed to maintenance free, no checking tire pressure etc.

Reminds me of the wire basket tires on the moon rover, actually.

The biggest problem I can see with these is their lack of versatility for people who actually pay attention to tire inflation. For the vast majority who don't, these are a boon.

There, I said it. Boon.
