US - Yes. Canada - No. Canada's really strict on importing non federalized cars nowadays. US has some loopholes (plus a new law) that allows rarely driven "show cars" to be imported if they are made in small numbers.

Would it be possible to get the car in my sig into Canada (not likely, cause only 40 were made :nut: ) or other models of the Vantage from England?

Canadian law dictactes that no vehicle that was not made to comply with the transportation code of canada, ie. at time of manufacturing, cannot be made/modified to comply with canadian standards. So basicaly no car can be imported to canada from overseas and be legaly regestered with the canadian regrestar and driven on canadian roads. There are a few exceptions: 1 if u are from another country and move here for school or work, u can import ur car and drive it here temproarly. 2, cars can be improrted for show/collector purposes only. Only driven on a race track. 3. cars older than 10 or 12 years qualify for the collector imports. Cars cannot be imported to the US and then imported to canada, ie. the r33's adn r34's that are being imported to the us. The regestar needs a letter of compliance from the manufacturer, it is impossible to get one if the vehicle is not manufactured for canada.

There are however, people who import cars in halves and weild them together when they get here, u can run a D plate instead of having the car registered.

There is a JDM right hand drive integra in calgary, can't say where tho.....

There are some loopholes in Canada though, but the people that know them guard the secrets pretty tightly. I mean, there's an F40 in calgary, a few R34's and Ford Escort Cosworths in Vancouver. Those are not listed anywhere on the registry of imported vehicles site (http://www.riv.ca).

Why waste time importing? Within two years you'll be able to buy a Evo from a mitsu dealer anyways.

who knows. maybe some people just can't wait or don't want the detuned piss water version. if i was going to buy one i wouldn't mind waiting a little longer with the steering wheel on the correct side.

Seems like some of the rules have changed a bit since a couple years ago...

EDIT: No, nevermind, this is importing from the US. From overseas still cannot be done legaly.

Vantage or DB7 Vantage? They're 2 different lines of cars, the DB7 is sold in Canada, there's a dealership on Burrard St in Vancouver.

Hehe, they already have the watered down Evo 7 wannabe in the States. The Lancer OZ :nut:

My boss has one (Lives in States though), he seems to really like it. The OZ just looks like a WRX w/o the fancy hood. Now the EVO 7.. That's another story . Don't think I'd spend 45 500 US to import it to the states if I lived there though.

I saw a Lancer about a week ago in Chinatown. It had Montana plates on it or something. Something is wrong with that C-pillar...

Well, since no one knows what the final specs on the US market Evo VII are going to look like its hard to say if it will be detuned or not, and what equipment it will carry. Lots of rumors everywhere, but nothing solid at all.

I'm really hoping the mitsu dealers will have better trained techs than the chrysler dealers did. I have heard so many horror stories about getting talons and stealths worked on at chrysler dealers.

A “BIONIC” LANCER FOR THE U.S.
Mitsubishi Press Release

LOS ANGELES (January 4, 2002)

Mitsubishi Motor Sales of America, Inc. announced today that the Lancer Evolution, a rally-tuned model previously unavailable in North America, will be coming to U.S. showrooms next year. The announcement is sure to please enthusiasts who have hungered for the high-performance version of the popular new Lancer sedan.

Last year, the Lancer badge, already renowned in global markets, burst onto Mitsubishi’s North American product line-up to great reviews and strong sales. This compact sedan – replete with big-car features – let customers know that a low sticker price doesn’t require a compromise in comfort, fun or durability. Evolution is a standout in the U.S. market’s Lancer family. Lancer Evolution: It’s Coming!

The magnificent Lancer Evolution will appear in U.S. showrooms in the spring of 2003. “The Lancer EVO is our chance to stir the blood of every enthusiast and build our reputation as a major performance player in this country,” said Pierre Gagnon, president and chief operating officer of MMSA. “It will cast warm light on every product we sell. When we say we build spirited cars for spirited people, everyone will be listening.”

Building on the Lancer sedan’s robustly designed unibody, Mitsubishi’s engineers pulled out all the stops, taking “The Bionic Man” approach to reinvention of a stronger, faster and smarter performance car. This unrivalled compact, super-sedan speaks volumes to Mitsubishi’s technological prowess, and World Rally Championship winning heritage. Expect the Lancer Evolution sedan we’ll see in U.S. showrooms to rumble with a 2.0 liter turbocharged, inline-four developing more than 250 rabid horses, gravity-defying four-wheel-drive handling, eye-ball displacing Brembo brakes and a sub-30K sticker price.

That press release makes no mention of whether the lancer will make it over here with all the electronic goodies intact like active yaw control, etc, no idea what the interior will be like, and only an estimate of how much power it will make. Its implied in there, but no one has seen final specs yet.

i think it means we will get a pissed down lancer evo. they will probably make it similar hp specs as the wrx so it can compete. i wonder what the price of the lancer evo will be......

About the same as an STi, in the 45-50 canadian range most likely. I'm betting closer to 45 than 50. Its all guesses for now, rumor mill is still saying STi in fall 2003, so gonna have to go test drive the all wheel drive road rockets :)

I saw the post about that on the i-club. Unfortunately, no real performance upgrades on the Spec R-1. Much nicer yellow than that sickly banana pudding colour the states got at least :)

sorry.. reviving an old thread.

I would assume that the Evo would be "watered-down" enough to compete with the STi that's coming here... why else would it be brought to North America? To compete with the normal WRX?... I highly doubt that.

Their best marketing tactic at this point is fill the niche where the STi is hoping to shoot for.
It should be anywhere from 260hp-280hp.
I've heard rumors of 260hp.. but that's just a stock STANDARD Evo with regulators... pop them out and you can get it back to the same JDM power figures.

What I'd be more concerned with is what 4wheeldrift pointed out: will it come with the same electronic goodies??
