Why would you put a Honda Engine into that.. Isnt lotus one of the best engine manufacteriers in the world ? You can get like 400hp out of there NA 4 cyl ?!?!

yep, some company imported these, but needed a different engine to meet standards or something, so they used the K20A. These things fucking rip! They weigh almost nothing, and they're mid engined.

I posted a link up in a previous post a few months ago for this car.

That car does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds.
A Porsche GT2 does it in 3.2.

Its only in the US, kinda like the company that imports skylines, but there's no crash testing for canada, so no dice up here.

nope not the rover engine they provided with the car. Apparently the B18C in the Elise makes it very fast. It wa in one of the car and drivers a ways back.

Many Euro engines don't meet N. American emission standards.
It's way cheaper for small companies to use an engine already
licenced, than to go through all the testing and paperwork.
That's why a engine transplant is done .

Lotus will be bringing the Elise to the US as an official, street driveable model in 2004. At the moment, you can get an Elise from Lotus, but its track use only (they'll special order them for people who want to race them). The company that does the imports with the Type R motors is IIRC Sun Motorsports, or something like that. The Rover 4 cylinders the Elise normally comes with wouldn't meet emissions so they swapped that in (honestly, they aren't that great anyways. Very little power or torque. Course, with a 1600lb car its not like you need a ton of power). This is one possible motor for the official version, they are also looking at drivetrains from nissan, toyota and mazda as well. And incidentally, that particular car is a 340R, a hard top racing model.

Its a cool car! That was the Sun Motorsports car, powered by a B18C5 out of an Integra Type R. It was stupid fast right out of the box, hardly any mods done to it other than the motor swap. The Elise is totally a Chapman inspired machine.

The stock Lotus Elise is only 120 bhp. That is why they used the JDM K20A. Honda is the best engine manufacturer in the world. :D

your kidding right...lotus HAD a 4 cyl turbo charged that was groud breaking, but they could not get the new engine that is desiged for that car into the country. I think it says something that lotus picked a honda engine to put into its new model. The numbers are almost identical between the lotus engine and the type-r motor. I think that the type-r motor is actually a bit lighter than the "european" model.

Honda motors is what lotus chose, why? because they are awsome.

You are all wrong. Ford engines are the best, especially the 600hp ones that they put into Probes.

the 2004 Lotus Elise is to be ready for sale by the end of 2003 from what I have heard. The engine specs are still up in the air but they are targeting 190+ HP apparently with a base cost of something like $38,000 USD. That is an estimated price it could go as high as $42K.
Anyways super tight car, I WANT ONE!!!!
