Looking to upgrade my computer. All I need is RAM, Motherboard, CPU, and Video Card. Willing to spend $1000 for those components. What components do you recommend? I won't do too much gaming but would like to play some games like CS once in a while. I will also want to use this computer as a HTPC if possible.

So far, this is what I have in mind...

DFI LANPARTY UT NF4 ULTRA-D MOTHERBOARD ATX S939 NFORCE4 ULTRA DDR 2PCI-E16 PCI-E4 PCI-E1 2PCI ..
$188.85

AMD ATHLON 64 3000+ PROCESSOR S939 VENICE 1.8GHZ 512K L2 CACHE 90NM RETAIL BOX
$207.10

OCZ DUAL CHANNEL PREMIER 2X512MB DDR PC3200 CAS2.5 3-3-7 W/ COPPER HEAT SPREADER
$185.82

eVGA E-GEFORCE 6600GT 128M DDR3 PCI-E VGA DVI HD OUT VIDEO CARD

Not bad, 2x512 might be overkill for CS but for HTPC not sure.

Just to let you know, I could probably make an HTPC system out of an Intel Celeron and 512mb ram, 4x your video card for just over that price. You don't need quick quick CPU for normal HTPC processing unless your ripping and encoding on the same machine and doing some interlacing and such. If I were you I would look into something a little less then upgrade to a nicer video card and get a better resolution out of the deal.

Good choice  No probs there really, too much ram is better than not enough. No worries, good luck.

What about the MB? Would you choose the DFI over Asus and other competitors?

DFI Lan party is pretty hot board, a lot of overclocking abilities. Even if you're into overclocking, it's still a decently priced NF4 board.

But as for HTPC, as in putting it next to TV, you may want to invest in some quiet watercooling solution because running this rig will be HOT!.
