Iam thinking about picking up this car this week, its here in calgary, car was brought here from the states, has 127,000km, its been changed to KM (70XXXish miles) has the M sport package, perm package, xenon lights, no accidents, its a very clean car drives so smoothly, breaks are perfect, rubber is 90%.

can anyone give me opinions, i know its a V8 i did look up the gas mileage, cocts about an extra 400 bux a year ove rmy benz in gas.

Looks pretty good to me. Pretty fair price for the condition of the car.

IMO its not to shabby i like it. But i wouldnt get rid of your benz to get it (unless you have an older benz) But remeber its not us who is going to buy it and who has to live with the choice. Do what you think

to me that is quite a bit of money to be spending on a car that has that many kms on it. Then again its a 5 series BMW and im a 19yo with not alot of money.
I would almost recomend going for a 3 series. You would get a newer one with less kms for that price.

Has the cluster been changed over? If so, you have no real indication of the mileage on that car...

JordanLotoski
05-29-2005, 12:21 PM
the cluster wasnt changed sorry, they just has the miles changed to KM's still has the MPH speedo ,and ive run a carfax and the mileage has never been tampered with, iam actually getting the car for 23,000...and i just made 4300 on my jetta, so iam actually getting the car for more like 19,000.

iam keeping my benz (2004) my wifes daily driver,.

Its a really good deal. I checked Canadatrader.com and there arent any in that range other than a lower mileage 1998.

DO IT.. You can't go wrong with BMW. They are supposed to be one of the most reliable cars out there. For me that model isen't really that quick, but then again it's a luxo-car. But once she gets going the thing pulls till you run out of numbers on your speedo.

no i dea on it's resale value

Nalgene

have you had it inspected yet?

JordanLotoski

the car was just serviced at calgary bmw a month ago, and nothing was found, it needed a new water pump that was replaced, iam calling there tomorrow to get the full details on the car, they guy has no problem with me taking it to calgaryu bmw to get looked at though, but if it was just there iam sure thet would have noted of any problems.

I just got back from looking at a 1997 bmw 740i blue/tan 120km sport package guy wants 25,000 firm

what would u guys get? 540i or 740i?

i'd get the 540. The 740 is more of an old timers car, to me anyways.

ecstasy_civic
05-29-2005, 03:57 PM
It depends I guess.

IMO the 540 is more of a drivers car, being smaller and having a 6speed.

The 740 is more of a cruiser and more accomodating to comfort and features.

If its for your clients i'd say get the 7 Series, more room, if its for your family and how you want to drive it, id say get the 5 Series.

5 series cars are super nice, i am just wondering about the mileage, seems like quite a bit on a 6 year old car, but thats just me, still a great car though

JordanLotoski
05-29-2005, 08:04 PM

Both the 540 and 740 are great cars. The 540 is really cramped in the back seat, so if you are going to be driving clients around, I'd get the 740. I think that the 540 is one of the most rewarding sedans to drive, but the 740 is no slouch either (especially for its size)

The 4.4L V8 is bulletproof.

whats better on gas?, and resale, say if i wanna sell the car in a year?

if u guys where in my shoes would u get the 740i, 540i, give it another week to see what else comes for sale. or get something from our east?

I'd get the 3 series over either of them. If it has to be those, i'd get the 540i.

i would go for the 540i. i've been in one, and i dont think its cramped at all.

540i (5 series in general) is a good family car and just a daily driver.
The thing has torque and balls to go along with it.
With a babyboy coming soon, I would consider buying one.

That particular BMW has been on auto trader for a 2-3 months now. The price has come down a lot. I follow these weekly. I'd say IF and only IF the inspection checks out get it.

The 540 will be better on gas ATBE, but you'll probably drive it more aggressively so it will likely even out.

The 740 has already depreciated like it has been thrown off of a cliff, so I think both of them are going to remain fairly stable resale wise if you take care of them. The 540 would likely be easier to sell, especially with 6 speed and a sport package (if it doesn't have a sport package, I'd highly recommend waiting for one that does as it makes the car twice as fun)

I know a realtor who used an E39 M5 for his work vehicle. Nobody ever complained that it's too cramped inside. :)

If it were I, I'd go for the newer car!! I mean, hard to pass up an upper model, but the sport package and the premium fixins, plus newer car really cuts the cake for me!

*edit* just re-read the original post... they both have the prem/sport packages. hmm.. well.. I'd still go for the newer ride, just because it's newer... just feels more homely. :D

at half the kms id go for the 323 but if you need the car for work the coupe is no good, you can jsut continue to use the benz, however, if you are for sure gonna be using the new car for work and not for the wife, 540i is the definate choice...of course there are pros and cons of each

4.4l v8 282 hp VS. 2.5(i think 323 has 2.5) i6 184 hp
130K kms vs. 70K kms

they are both great cars and i say jsut go for th eones that suits your needs better, spacewise and powerwise and so on

i think i just decided i dont want a 3 series nor a 5 series, so much of my wants a 740il...iam gonna continue the search to get a 740il...i mean if iam gonna get a 5 series, might as well get a 7 alot more luxury. for the same amout of money, and pretty much the same on gas

then again give me 10 minutes this could all change.

Have you checked out this one?

A little more, but it says OBO and a lot less kms. Plus it's black on black

personally id go for the 3-series, if i could choose any bimmer i wanted it would be the 328is  the only reason i didnt is cause my insurance quote came back as double what im paying for the sky now... :thumbsdow
i believe the 7-series is more of a old fogie car, but in the end you need to take each one of for a test drive and come to the decision yourself. we shouldnt influence your decision because we arent the ones forking out the cash and living with the car after.
but imo the 3-series is the way to go. sportier, the 3 and 5-series are the most modifiable with the biggest selection of parts, and imo the sexiest looking, even in four door form...

i found a 7 series, 97, 120km..black on tan. If i buy it today iam ordering some axis super mesh wheels (19's)
