Hi all,

Installing a new heatsink and fan on my Athlon XP 1700+, and in doing so, it appears that I ever-so-slightly chipped the corner - damn thing anyway!

I'd like to know if these are fixable in any way, or if I have any leeway to send em back to AMD - I mean, what a crap design! I was very careful, lined it all up, etc...

Help!

yep it's a shitty design! When AMD went back to a socket (vs their brief thing w/ slot mounted cpus) they didn't want to use a heat spreader due to mis-labelling. Back in the k6 days, people would lap the metal cap, then relabel the cpu as something else :D

Pickup a 10 dollar shim and then it won't happen again :p

time to go to socket 754/939 cpus! No more cracking the core when mounting on heatsinks!
