Convergys in lethbridge center mall.....

they will pretty much hire anyone and start at $10/hr, with 3 weeks of paid training....

At least take the training and quit, it's basically free money!

well......things are a little different here in lethbridge..careers don't just fall out of trees. I have only had 5 jobs in the last 5 years, but they involved many of the above together.

employers here are typically kinda stingy as to paying people what they are worth.. i ran the entire wholesale/restaurant side of a liqour store, including running a warehouse, recieving and ordering stock, taking and delivering orders to clients within a 200 km radius, as well as other customer and vehicle related responsibilites, a job that required constant effort for about 48 hours a week....and they start you at a whopping 7.50, after over 1.5 yrs..i was up to an amazing 8.50..and they still complianed that i could do it faster/better.... so i moved on as i would have to somehow kill the owner and his son if i ever wanted a promotion, not that i would do that..

i also ran the whole front desk of a hotel, taking reservations, answering phone calls, dealing with concernsd, handling baggage and cash/credit cards etc etc.. for a the wholesome fee of 8 whole dollars..and i even did a 3 month practicum for them for free. plus as soon as 9/11 hit, it was sorry we have nothing for you to do ..thanks see ya later...back unemployed

i don't really care about getting paid a lot. i just would like a decent daytime job that is enjoyable, and gives person a chance to move up in exchange for hard work. i don't think that is really a stretch for a college graduate who is willing to take on any challenges and employer can throw at me.

thks for your comments, however irrelevant, still looking if anybody has any real help..and yes i know that i can start tomorrow in calgary for 15 bux, but i can live much cheaper here, and your roads suck, so i think i will stick to visiting the big city for now...

Panago is hiring delivery drivers in lethbridge.. I worked there for a couple years while I was in college and it was a blast.. It is such a slack job, but very fun. Everyone who works there is a post-graduate/high school student, so it gives it a really fun atmosphere.. I was making $7 an hour, plus $0.75 gas per delivery, plus I keep all the tips I make, which was usually $40+ a night for a 6 hour shift, with some nights making over $100.. Give it a shot, they are usually desperate for drivers and will hire anyone..

convergys isnt such a hot place to work. Evan used to work there and I am still stuck there.

Panago eh....I hear horror stories about car insurance and a delivery job. Otherwise I would be interested in going to panago......delivery would be fun and the money with tips looks about as good as convergys (10$/hr)

Evan, try....Sun-life I think its called.....by new casino. A call center type of desk job...I am told lots of free training...and 13$/hr starting.

Normerica I hear has some descent money.....

Start your own shop!, battle against MAK customs!!!

I''m hoping that you will consider what I'm about to say in the nicest possible way, because I too used to live in Lethbridge.

Why don't you move to the big bad nasty city of Calgary that many Lethbridgians are so dead set against moving to?

I did, I still drive like a lethbridge farmer ( wich pisses everyone off - ). My salary has almost doubled, and I could easily find another job that pays the same because I'm still paid about 20% less that others that have worked here longer than me.( but I will catch up after a few job promotions/changes)

For many purchases that I used to have to hum and ha over for months, are easily done as an impulse buy these days. So, am I really doing better than I was in Lethbridge?...I have no doubt that I am.

In almost every neighborhood in Calgary, you can find a quiet street that will remind you of Lethbridge. Who cares if theres 900k people, lethbridge is alrealdy over 100k people, it's not like you have the small town feel that you can get in a place like Monarch!

this is all true, however, can you really find a 4 bedroom hosue with garage and hottub and double lot in calgary for 100k?

of course you can't, i'm just trying to work out whether the increased costs will balance out with the increased income potential.

plus if is were to move to a city that provide more opportunity and a higher cost of living i think i would look towards Kelowna.

what do you do for a living Tyler? I am not in a position right at this second to move due to renovations on the house and putting a new motor in my car, but if i had asolid opportunity i would consider things further...

ps audiorookie...sun life won't call me back, convergys sucks, pizza is honest work, but it's depressing to work nights and weekends only, ever, all summer and beyond, and well i would rather be at zellers, at least you aren't responsible for providing a vehicle to amke the 10 bux an hour. Plus the supra is no good for that shit, it would be like delivering the herald in yru dad's rambler...

Well at least for me it's simple math. my salary increased by 12 thousand a year which balances out with my mortgage payment of 1000 per month( 1000 would cover the mortgage on about 140K - I had rrsps that made up the difference)

I know it sounds like it is an even trade off, but you also have to consider that:
- none of the salary that I was used to making at Lethbridge is being spent on housing.
- I haven't suffered any long lay-offs. My last layoff, I found contract work in 3 days(actually made more money), then found permanent work again in 3 months( only 3-5 days of real job search)
- many day to day costs from shopping can be cheaper if you watch the flyers because there are more places that might have the items that you want on sale.

It might only be about $500-600 dollars advantage per months, but my wife is doing the same....and if you manage your cash as wisely at Calgary as you do in Lethbridge, the extra cash can really add up over time.

BTW, your perspective would change if you came to Calgary. We don't get exited about $10 jobs like people in Lethbridge do. My nefew( with no experience) got a job at a liquor store for $10 bucks an hour, they could keep him because he found better work a few weeks later.

I'm pretty sure that laborers in housing construction seldom start at $10 and can easily make $20 ....more once you have skills or a trade.

Edit: How 'easy' is it for an established person in Lethbridge to make
$20 an hour? I remember my lethbridge co-workers scoffing at me when I said that we should be paid at least $20 an hour - they didn't beleive me.

I'm with Tyler on this one.

You say your looking for a career, are you actually looking for a career or just another job, because they aren't the same, pizzia is a job, construction would be a good career.

I don't know how much you get paid down there for construction but I know of a few companies right now that I could go apply for at the age of 16, yes thats me, and be hired for 16.25.

Thats basically no previous construction experience, still in school, and as they know probbaly no hope that I will still be there within 2 years as I will find something better around the city.

You move up here, and you look around for a job. Tyler is right 3-5 days probably. Print off 20 resumes and just go for a short drive, it seems like every second business in this city is looking for employees and they are all havign to fight over the few we have which means some places will pay better then others.

Gives you a chance to get into a field you want to for better pay then it would down there.

I can't see living expenses being that different if you manage and monitor what you are spending and on what, which you should anyways to keep yourself out of the hole.

Houses yes they cost more, you can still find houses for 100-130k but they aren't anythign spectacular, but with the job market here you won't have a problem reselling if it isn't working for you.

Just around my block we've had 3 houses go up for sale, 2 sold within a week the other is still for sale but he is asking a little too much, but it won't be too long before it has a sold sticker on it.
